Official official offseason thread

Which is not a bad plan. But it effectively turns Ozuna into high priced dead weight on the bench. Not sure AA is willing to treat Ozuna as 2 year dead weight, no matter what the best decision is

I guess he and ownership are not willing to. Because it’s pretty simple for me. If I’m going to be paying Marcell all that money, I’d rather be paying him all that money and have the best 25 other guys possible.

This isn't very comforting.

Part of it boils down to the state of AAA right now. It used to be that AAA was a key step in player development, but now most of the players at that level are like a pro football practice squad in that they can be called up to fulfill a short term need.

The other part is that the Braves only a handful of guys who have reached AA and, of those, only Jesse Franklin V and Cody Milligan (probably more accurately classified as a utility player) are on the prospect radar. Andrew Moritz and Justin Dean are useful guys, but they are probably what is termed organizational depth at this point in their careers. Below that, only Brandol Mezquita and Douglas Glod hit the Top 30 in the eyes of mlb.com.

Reading can be hard when it doesn’t say what you think. I never once called him a bad GM or copy 2.0. I said people will die at his alter much like they did when Copy was here and making trades. All the comments saying how he gets paid to do this so I guess he knows more than us. They defended him until they could no longer defended him. Which is fine. We are fans. We do stupid things. We attack others who might question someone you like. Sort of like when one of my kids used to hit the other with a toy when they tried to take it. You haven’t matured enough in your fandom to be rationale. It is ok. Like my kids I won’t attack but correct with compassion.

What AA did this offseason has nothing to do what he has or hasn’t done in the past. It still baffles me why people think that is what I am saying. It is like you thinking I shot your dog because I said he crapped on the carpet.

AA, imo, didn’t have a great offseason. I would have preferred if he didn’t want to spend in the deep pool that he just make. A few moves around the edges and keep a lot of the milb depth. That or make these win now moves but push in a little more and over pay. I am sorry it rubs you the wrong way. I will just treat AA like I am talking about Bear to a hick Alabama fan. That I have three dogs, 2 kids and 4 grand kids named bear.

Reading is hard when that’s not what you ****ing said. The way you said it can be interpreted either way. Try writing better. It’s really not that ****ing difficult. Not even as difficult as understanding that AA has built a great roster.

The $10m that the Braves kicked into the Odorizzi deal is rearing its ugly head right now.

Fangraphs has our luxury tax payroll just a few thousand under $230m.

is tax that bad? if we are are 230, then you can go to 250. So 20 million to spend on conforto.

Plus you get the 20% penalty. But we are nowhere close to actually spending 250 b/c of the extensions.

That trade still doesn't make sense. He surely could have got another team to kick more money back if he would have just waited.

It'd be nice if we could do Conforto at 1/20 with a mutual second-year option and trade Rosario for nothing while eating some of the salary.

I'll ask again. Is the Luplow contract a guaranteed deal or make the opening day roster to get paid???? Was he signed simply to make sure there is a LF available should Ozuna and/or Rosario is traded? As 50pound mentioned there are no AAA OFer on Gwinett roster that I can find.

Read an article on mlbtraderumors that said teams are worried about his arm coming off shoulder injury. If he can only play lf/DH, he's not as valuable imo

Really hope this spending spree blows up in the Mets face. The last thing any sport needs is allowing a team to outspend other teams by insane amounts. Thank God NFL doesn't allow this crap.
They’ve done a good job going after guys on short term high AAV deals. This essentially allows them to quickly pivot if things go sour quickly.

Expanded playoffs and balanced scheduled really limits the upside of spending a lot of money. They’ll be a great regular season team but I’m not sure each additional dollar spent at this point provides much of a return on their championship odds.

I gotta defend Matt because I'm in the same boat to an extent. Those loving the Murph move have every right to, but some (me included), think that virtually the same offensive production could have been had while addressing LF/SS first. No one said they have to overspend and no matter what you think of WC or Malloy and others, IN MY OPINION, they would have been prime candidates.

you are assuming there was a LF/SS available for around the same cost that is nearly as good as Murphy. it’s very likely that was not the case.
