Official official offseason thread

We definitely can’t afford to fall in a rut to start the year with both the Mets and Phillies being a lot better. I’d say us and the Dodgers either got worse or stayed par.

I believe D’Arnaud is a top 10 catcher and very valuable. I am thinking if we should offer him in a trade. If we can package him to the American league for a LF or SS. Next 2 years he make 8 millions a year and second year is team option.

I'm having a difficult time finding many teams that would be a match.

Padres? Kim?
Cubs? As part of Happ trade?
Pirates? As part of Reynolds trade?
Red Sox? Verdugo?

I'll throw an out-of-the-box idea out there where AA gets a third team involved in a Boston trade and nets us Devers (most likely as a one-year rental) to share DH and 3B with Riley.

Problem with trading TDA now is we'd be a Murphy injury away from being pretty well ****ed at the position. This again is why I'm not thrilled we traded two big-league catchers to get Murphy and nothing else. If we were going to strongly consider a TDA trade, I wish we would have found a way to do the Murphy deal without Pina in it. No free agent catchers left that are really appealing.

Interesting article regarding the Correa and Mets saga. Word was that they were still likely to get a deal done, with it being restructured. Now it is being reported chances are 55% that the deal gets done, with Correa not really being open to restructuring the deal. Since word came out about there being medical concerns, 3 teams have reached out checking on Correa.

They were saying on the radio that the issue is not one that is current, but concerns the possibility of an arthritic joint in the future....makes sense one a 12 year deal.

I'd offer 3 years / $102 and see if he'd bite

I'd have to think the Twins knew about the Correa issue when they signed him last season and subsequently offered him 10/285 to stay. I assume if the Mets deal does fall through, the Twins' offer will stand and he'll choose them. I'd be very surprised if anyone else went double-digit years. And I'd be shocked if the Mets ultimately blew this up. Just feels like Cohen has gone too far down the road with all of his comments about Correa.

I wouldn't give the Mets any relief off that contract. They knew there was an issue, and they went full speed ahead anyway. If there's a lesser deal, it would be a different team if I were correa

Yeah I wouldn’t agree to a lesser deal with the Mets either. They knew there was a medical problem with SF and didn’t check before offering a contract? Their fault.

You know the question of "what was the medical issue" came up prior to offering the contract. Especially considering it was a year less and $35m less than agreed to with the Giants.

I still think the deal gets done, but it would be funny if he fell back onto the market.

The medical problem with Correa seems not to be an issue he has today but projected arthritis down the road in his previously injured leg.
