Official official offseason thread

That’s why I think Dansby will be the one they cover the most bc he’ll be cheaper. Nola and Wheeler will be a lot more expensive and Hoskins will have to be resigned.

They can let Hoskins walk.

I wonder what Dombrowski has planned when Nola become a free agent next winter (and Wheeler the next year). Truly they don’t have the money to resign everyone given they have been skiddish in the past going past the luxury tax threshold.

Sounds like they dont care about the tax anymore. With regards to Wheeler/Nola, they have Abel and Painter coming up soon, as well as having Suarez.

If the actual 2023 payroll is around $196M now, and if the luxury tax number is currently around $228M, and if this is true: "Finishing with a CBT number between $233MM and $253MM...would come with a maximum of $4MM in additional fees", then...

Adding a $25M player costs the Braves $29M and brings the actual 2023 payroll to $225M. That seems like a perfectly reasonable actual 2023 payroll number, so I wouldn't be surprised to see AA add a contact (or 2) with a total AAV right around $25M.

So that's the number I imagine AA has to spend on 2023 improvements: $25M.

That is the point. No one is saying $50m coming off the books, go spend that. The point is if he spends around $25m or so, with the money coming off the books minus the raises, we should be able to dip below the luxury tax line so we aren’t hit the following season

If AA feels that Turner is the best fit I believe he has the money to get him if he wants. He’s not gonna go on a spending spree but he can get whatever player he wants. If you wanna be a top spending team you’re gonna have to go over the tax.

I cant blame the Mets for passing on DeGrom for that. Do they pivot to Verlander or Rodon now?

Rangers have spent a $hit ton the past year. 5 years for deGrom won’t age well. At least he’s out of the NL East now. This will probably start a fall of SP now. Rodon to Mets I’m sure.

Guessing Verlander/Dodgers, and Rodon/Mets. Rodon might be the better long-term bet.

I’m glad the Braves did not sign him to that type of contract. With his injury history, that is a huge gamble on the Rangers part. I’m also glad he’s out of the NL East

Martino saying Mets going after Verlander. And i agree with Cy that Mets were smart not giving him that contract. A little risky on Verlander given his age and away from the Astros lab.

If Mets miss on Roton and verlander, who they throwing money at, judge?

They're not in on Judge but in said scenario... Probably BP pitchers, Senga, Bassit, Taillon, Nimmo/outfielders, maybe one of the shortstops.
