Anthopoulos said #Braves anticipate going into spring training with all three of their current catchers (d'Arnaud, Contreras, Piña), wouldn't rule out trade but said he doesn't anticipate it. With DH, said he thinks they can get them all ABs and likes depth in case of injury

Wow, Sean Murphy close to getting traded. Braves front runner per Mark Feinsand. What are we even trading.

It’s really hard to predict what the As would want because they tend to overvalue mediocre MLB contributors like Shuster, which is why I love AA trading with them. If AA gets Murphy for a poopoo platter of 45s it doesn’t really matter how many catchers the Braves have…that is a great value play.

Having said that, if the As don’t get 2 of Grissom/Contreras/Anderson they screwed up.

FYI, from DoB:

Anthopoulos said the tax threshold would not stop #Braves from making a deal if it can make the team better and stay within their budget. And their budget is based on actual salaries they're paying in 2023, not AAVs of long-term extensions that the luxury-tax calculation uses.

I'm scared at what the return is. Murphy has 3 years of control left, and is elite defensively, solid with the bat. Would be quite a haul unless Oakland covets other players. Only way Grissom in this makes sense is if they have a deal lined up with one of the stud shortstops.

They have Shea ready for catcher, so not sure they'd need him. I'm expecting something like Anderson, Grissom and filler. But if AA got him for Anderson, and lesser pieces, i cant even blame him for it.

I’m thinking the same kind of package, then Reynolds for Contreras plus other stuff.

Always hard to figure the As though.

Update on Sean Murphy: it still appears Oakland is close to a trade, but the Braves are NOT going to be the acquiring team, per source. The Cardinals, Rays, Guardians and Red Sox are among the teams that have been connected to Murphy in recent weeks.

- Feinsand.

Fun while it lasted.

Went from front runners per Feinsand less than an hour ago to NOT going to be the acquiring team

These baseball writers don’t know 💩

Kinda figured it didnt happen, b/c moves from AA that happen usually get leaked by the team or Passan. Once a move is final is when Braves moves get announced. Would have loved Murphy but we're stacked at catcher so it's not a big deal.

Feinsand is one of the more reliable rumor mongers out there. I’d take a smaller grain of salt with his reporting than Heyman, Nightengale, Morosi, et al.

Still I imagine the majority of this reporting is based on conjecture from baseball people they are friendly with.

Murphy would have been cool, but the really cool part would have been the subsequent move to clear the logjam at catcher.

At the end of the day giving 1400 C/DH PAs to the trio of TDA/Pina/Contreras is the quality choice that doesn’t require a single additional resource to be spent.

5:47PM: The Braves aren’t going to be the team that lands Murphy, Feinsand tweets in a new update, though the A’s do still look like they’re nearing a deal. Anthopoulos told Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Twitter links) and other reporters that the Braves are planning to go into the spring with Contreras, d’Arnaud and Pina behind the plate. Offers could be considered out of due diligence, but Anthopoulos said “I do not anticipate a trade, so just to shut that down
