Official official offseason thread

It can be frustrating being a Braves fan at the Winter Meetings because since AA has come on board, we NEVER, make any move here, while all of the teams around us get better.

However, AA has shown consistently that he is right more often than wrong. So in AA I trust, and if he stands pat as is going into spring training, I may need to report to a different kind of AA.

It is frustrating. The Braves have a really good team as is. But it will kind of suck if the big move was resigning Morton before FA started.

I think the big moves were locking up Riley, Harris, and strider. If those cost us a big move this offseason, I'm ok with that. I really like we got our core for a while

What do y'all make of these Grissom updates? Trying to appear we have leverage? Trying to sell him to our fanbase as a good option? Trying to boost him up as a prospect for trade?

Ive said all off season that Braves big moves will be trades. Just dont have many chips to trade and hard decisions on those. Other teams wont trade til they make their signing to fill voids,

Currently, the Mets' CBT payroll is ~$298 million. With the Jose Quintana signing, they are now over the Steve Cohen Tax threshold, and every dollar they spend gets taxed at 90%. If they stop spending today, their total tax bill would be ~$34 million. But they're not stopping.

That's insane.

If the goal is competitive balance, you should lose a pick for going over. Say going over by 10% cost you a 3rd, 20% a 2nd, and 30% a 1st. Something like this

ETA... or lose international signing money or maybe combo of the 2.

There should also be a minimum salary threshold, and penalty for not reaching that

I didn't like the Morton move when announced, but given what's been doled out the past couple of days, it's not looking all that bad, especially seeing it's a one-year deal. Quintana deal isn't too bad, but I don't think his fastball can put a dent in a tissue at this stage of this career. Taillon deal looks alright as well, but I'm scratching my head over the Walker deal. The Phils are paying $18 MM per for a back-of-the-rotation starter who has had injury problems.

Elvis Andrus is just one of multiple options for the Braves. He has a good relationship with Wash from their Texas days. What would it have paid in 2007 to bet Charlie Morton and Elvis Andrus would be part of the 2023 Braves?

It'll be great if the next Alex Rodriguez makes it back to our team.

I frankly don't know if the beat writers have access to what's really going on, but it just seems that Swanson leaving is being treated as a fait accompli.

A few weeks ago I say Elvis Andrus… lol

Why is everyone hating on the Walker signing. The Phil’s just signed a 30 year old pitcher to a 18 per deal. Walker was pretty good last year and has shown to be good in others. Braves spent20 mill on a 70 year old who struggled horribly last year. I guess I don’t see why this 4 year deal is so awful.

It's not the AAV that's the issue. It's the years given to an offer injured 30 year old pitcher who's pitched over 160 innings exactly once in his career and has been no better than a mid rotation pitcher at any point over that time. For reference, Smyly has been worth nearly the same amount of WAR over the last 3 years.
