Official official offseason thread

That's insane.

If the goal is competitive balance, you should lose a pick for going over. Say going over by 10% cost you a 3rd, 20% a 2nd, and 30% a 1st. Something like this

ETA... or lose international signing money or maybe combo of the 2.

There should also be a minimum salary threshold, and penalty for not reaching that

this might be your greatest moment on these forums. I like these ideas but only if coupled with the existing tax hit too.

Andrus is a better option than either Arcia or Grissom as SS. He'd bring good defense and would probably hit enough to carry his weight. He also shouldn't break the bank either in money or in years. Though in this market he'll probably be more expensive than he should be

Grissom to start and Andrus just in case. Trade Arcia.

It's not the AAV that's the issue. It's the years given to an offer injured 30 year old pitcher who's pitched over 160 innings exactly once in his career and has been no better than a mid rotation pitcher at any point over that time. For reference, Smyly has been worth nearly the same amount of WAR over the last 3 years.

I should have mentioned the years in my post. The AAV isn't that bad, but why wouldn't the Phillies want Taillon for slightly less over the same length of contract?

I like your ideas but If the goal is competitive balence then there needs to be a hard cap like the other major sports have.
If not then I’m all for not penalizing someone willing to blow thier money to try to win however stupid the contract is
I’ve never heard of a team going bankrupt and we have multiple teams making so much profit by doing the bare minimum that in some ways there needs fo be a Mets/Yankees/Phillies team to balance it out.
Just sucks that we don’t have a billionaire that likes blowing money but I’m thankful we have a smart GM who does the best he can with the resources he does have.

I'm not convinced guys like Iglesias and Andrus are appreciably better than Arcia. They all seem to be the same ~2 win SS that is one of the 1-2 worst everyday players on a championship caliber team.

It looks like the Braves are going to amazing everywhere but SS and LF, where they will be average or slightly below. That's a very good team overall.

Ynoa, elder, Anderson, muller, and now Shuster are the ones vying for the 5th spot. Do you think the braves plan on keeping all?

Watch it! You're talking about the next Alex Rodriguez.

I want them to trade Anderson. His numbers have eroded every year. I think the league has adjusted to his strange release point and are starting to exploit the fact that he only has two pitches. I want them to deal him before he loses all of his value.

Can't see into the future, but Anthopoulos may hold on to both money and prospects to make his augmenting moves at the trade deadline.

I still think they are in on Swanson and I wouldn't be surprised if they signed a couple of mid-tier bullpen guys.

I don't think he has much value.. guy who tanked last year and didn't really do much in the minors either.. I doubt many teams buy him as a real asset at this point.
