Official official offseason thread

Ross Stripling is a guy I’d like to pick up for 5th/spot start/middle relief. Maybe a bit redundant with McHugh but I think he’d be more of depth guy for the rotation and a solid 5th option.

Yeah, there's a -100% chance the Braves trade Fried. y'all are some silly mother****ers.

Now that it is a Jim Callis rumor - “A rumor I’m hearing, and I don’t know if this is imminent, but with the Braves’ payroll climbing, who knows if they’ll sign Sean Murphy to an extension… I’m hearing some Max Fried rumors on the block, that they may not be able to sign him long-term. Don’t be shocked if we see a Max Fried trade this offseason.” - (a month after the silly mother####ers on this board suggested it as a real possibility) can we discuss what kind of haul it would take to pry Fried loose?

Watching Freeman and Swanson walk in consecutive off-season's likely means AA views anyone not agreeing to a long term extension on team friendly terms as for sale.

A thought on the Murphy deal. d'Arnaud has been a great backstop for Atlanta, but he is getting older and doesn't fit the extended window established by the lengthy extensions. Murphy fills the window for at least the next 3 years. Ultimately, this move may say more about what the front office thinks of Drake Baldwin's (3rd Round pick this year) ability behind the plate. He is the only prospect of note at the position now. He is proving to be a high OBP guy that will draw walks and provide some pop. The question in the draft was whether his defense was good enough. With half a minor league season under his belt, this move may indicate the FO has a strong belief he's the future.

maybe trading from our position of lessor need (pitching) and a position of crazy demand (pitching) isn't a bad idea. I mean the right offer would have to come along and the FO would have to know where some of our other guys (Soroka and Company) stand in regards to being ready, but it seems with how expensive TOR pitching has become, teams might be willing to unload a hefty package to get 2 years of Fried.. Just food for thought. I doubt they would do it..but I wouldn't dismiss it all together.

The issue to me is whether the goal is to make the best effort possible to win another championship in the next 2 years or two give yourself the best possibility to win a championship over the next 7 years. If you trade Fried it won't be for a short term fix at SS and LF. It will be for players or prospects that can reasonably be expected to fill those holes for the next 4+ years. If you ride Fried for 2 years and don't win it, that draft pick compensation will end up being ready for MLB when the majority of the core is moved on and we are in rebuild mode.

Olney: The Braves are trying to win in the immediate future. To that end, they aren't entertaining a trade of their ace, Max Fried.

The fact that this is being discussed is ridiculous. In no universe would we be trading our ace smack dab in the middle of our window/run. AA, please push us over the top and sign Dansby or Correa.

I doubt anyone really thought he would.. it would have to take an unbelievable offer.. but then someone did just pay Xander 300+ million.

Carlos Baerga just reported Carlos Correa will stay in Minnesota and sign with the Twins. He’s probably 50/50 but not a horrendous source.

The starting point for me right now would be any team's very best offensive player on their MLB roster, their top pitching prospect, and start adding on from there.

Minn getting CC is a very bad sign for the Braves.

Then you get the best LF you can get... probably in the benintendi, conforto, and Brantley group. Then either sign iglesias or andrus. Before I signed andrus though, I'd attempt to trade one of our AAA/MLB up down starters for Rosario of the Indians.
