Official official offseason thread

Perhaps the most irritating part of the Mets excessive spending, and to a lesser extent the lack of spending by over half the league, is that the playoff picture is essentially set in the NL. Can't see there is any way there is a surprise team emerging this year. It's all going to come down to the same teams as last year. And whoever doesn't win the central between the Cardinals and Brewers, can they steal a wild card spot.

I think it's distributed to the teams in the bottom 10 in market/revenue? I'm not really sure to be honest, but it's something like that.

They should make it the division you play in. If the Mets knew the other 4 teams would get an extra 25 million each it may deter them from doing it.

While we are flipping out about the Mets...has anyone looked at the projections?

CF: Harris 4.8 (114 games, no sitting vs LH)/ Nimmo 5.4...........Slight advantage Mets? I think push but I love harris.
LF: Rosario -1.1/ Marte 3.......big advantage Mets
RF: Acuna 2.2/Canha 2.8........Big advantage Braves
3b: Riley 5.5/Correa 6.3.....Advantage Mets
SS: Open 1? Down from 5.5/ Lindor 6.8.........Big advantage Mets
2B: Albies 1.1 (64 games)/ McNeil 5.9.......Is he 2B or OF? I think this is a wash if Ozzie is Ozzie (even with his splits and OBP issues)
1B: Olson 3.1/Alonso 4........I think Olson is a better player but Push
C: TDA 3.9........big advantage Braves
DH: Contreras 2.4, Ozuna -0.6

Bench: Grissom 0.7 (41 games), Arcia 0.7 (68 games)

Not doing all of it....
Pitchers they have a better top 2 if healthy, but those guys are old and not that much better than Max IMO. I think starters is a push. I think our pen is better but they have the better closer.

Teams look pretty even to me. Slight advantage Mets as of now. An impact bat at SS, LF or DH could put the braves over the top.

I do think the braves have more upside. Nimmo, McNeil, Alonso, Canha and Marte are solid players but I think are on the down slide. Older, have some Babip luck.

I think the braves have guys who could be stars in Harris, Acuna, Albies, Riley, Olson and Murphy. Mets have stars in Lindor and Correa. Pitching stars Mets have Verlander, Scherzer and Diaz. Max is a star for us. Strider could be.

Over the last two years, Correa has a .842 OPS — the third basemen in that time period with a better OPS are just Austin Riley (.887), Rafael Devers (.885), José Ramírez (.881), Manny Machado (.867) and Nolan Arenado (.848). — Sammon

Clearly we'd expect Correra to be a much better defender than Riley.

Contreras dont play for the Braves anymore.

I don't even know how this would begin to appeal to the Giants. Are we sending them Grissom? What are we getting back?

Agree. Giants prospects are so so. Do have some interesting OF prospects. IMO they would have no interest in Ozuna or Rosario. No position player at ML level should be of interest to us.

Coppolella deserves big-time scorn for the cheating because that has and continues to bedevil us, but I think he should get some credit for starting the rebuild and making some good foundational deals. There were times I thought he was the poster child for the "You Too Can be Successful with ADHD" campaign and I thought he misread the contention window and as a result made a couple of goofy now-for-later deals. The suspension probably spared the Braves of having to move on from him on their own as he had probably run his course.

Coppy traded a ton of valuable MLB assets for a mediocre set of younger assets, focusing too much on arms that contributed very little. Literally any MLB FO member could have orchestrated that series of moves. It takes almost zero talent to auction off MLB assets to the highest bidder in the same way it takes zero talent to go on a spending spree building a win now team.

Bowdon on mlb radio this morning said Ohtani will sign with the Mets next season.
Said a source told him both player and team both want to make it happen.
NL East has a chance to be the best division in the history of baseball the next few seasons.
Crazy.

I wasn’t all that impressed with his trades as a whole. But his team seemed to draft pretty well. Braves traded a lot of top talent and got fried and Swanson as their big return. Copy is a disgrace to this franchise and should never be held in any other regard.

They’re gonna have a lot of competition. The Dodgers, Padres, and Yankees will throw everything at him.

The Mets do have Scherzers 42 million coming off the books next year so they could just give that to Ohtani. Crazy. Alonso is gonna need a contract soon too.
