Official official offseason thread

Seems to me that if he couldn’t handle the position —that Wash of all people would say so, and not waste his precious time on a lost- cause project. So from that I am very encouraged.

I maintain that Grissy will out perform Dansby at the plate this season.

My bet is that he and Arcia will at least match Dansby’s offensive production.

My prediction for Grissom is that he's going to be very mediocre, and lots of people are going to love him for "playing the game the right way".

And that's going to be just fine for this team while he's cheap.

Methinks the Rangers better get used to this.

Nationals as well. Strasburg had a set back in his rehab from thoracic outlet syndrome. There is no timetable for his return. Honestly, the dude may never pitch again.

Making $35m a year between now and 2026, including $11.43m/year that will be deferred plus interest...... ouch

I think he has a reasonable floor, but I don't know if he's got much of a ceiling. As for his defense, it will be interesting to see what the deeper stats indicate. The eye test on physically big shortstops can often be really misleading.

Tim McCarver had passed away

I always thought he did a reasonably good job as an analyst although he tipped too heavily to the traditionalist side much of the time. He'll always bring back bad memories from when he went on and on and on and on after Wohlers gave up the crucial home run to Jim Leyritz way back when and McCarver just kept muttering and sputtering about Wohlers using his "third-best pitch" in a key situation.

I just keep remembering the struggles Dansby had early on defense.

Then I wonder if that makes me feel better about Wash's ability to teach or worse that Grissom could really cost us on defense.

Kid is going to have to hit.

Brewers beat Corbin in the arb hearing over a difference of $750k...$10M vs $10.75M.

“There’s no denying that the relationship is definitely hurt,” the right-hander said. “There’s really no way of getting around that. Obviously, we’re professionals and we’re going to go out there and do our job. Keep doing what I can every fifth day that I go out there. But some of the things that are said, for instance, basically putting me at the forefront of why we didn’t make the postseason last year — that’s something that probably doesn’t need to be said.”

What a completely moronic way to treat a franchise anchor over such a measly sum. I just don't understand how teams can be so stupid.

If i'm not mistaken, this is his last Arb year before free agency is that correct? If there was any doubt that he was leaving, it's pretty solid now.

I agree it’s a bad way to treat a player. But, from the Brewers perspective does it really matter. There is no way the Brewers have the money to match what he will earn as an FA.

I’m sure if the Brewers offer him the biggest FA contract he will find some way to forgive them.

Pretty much.

Corbin is just doing it so when he leaves, he won't look like the bad guy completely when he takes the biggest deal on the market as he shouild. I doubt the Brewers have anywhere near the amount of money to spend on him as he'll command.

Probably.

But comparable market-sized teams have found ways to extend their stars (Cleveland with Rameriz comes to mind). Alienating them now basically removes that option entirely.

And besides extension ramifications, if your star players key takeaway is that the team blames you for missing the playoffs, that’s probably not worth the $700k you saved.
