Camargo isn’t a starting 3b on a contending club and neither is Riley right now, AA knows this and will do something there. No way he spent that much on the bp to ignore 3b and the cleanup spot.

One would hope. But I think some of us seem a bit weary of a big move coming.

2018 Camargo is certainly a starting 3B on a contending club if we signed a slugger for the outfield. The gamble is whether the 2018 Camargo is the real one or not.

That’s a big if. And if/when he shows he’s not then we pay the contenders premium at the deadline.

I mean, the only 3B are Arenado or Bryant. I can see Castellanos or Ozuna, and see how Camargo/Riley do.

You would think logically if we made that trade we would include Riley. Also considering KB will be going to free agency in two years to maximize how much he makes. Knowing we likely wouldn’t be able to afford him, and I don’t think we’d have another viable starting option at third, who are some third basemen who would be free agents AFTER the 2021 season? Just some food for thought.

Kris Bryant to the Braves seems inevitable.

Dont see AA paying what they want, 3 of Waters/Anderson/Riley or Wright is beyond stupid or whatever it was.

More i think about it, Castellanos makes the most sense, bat wise he's on par with JD, doesnt cost a pick. Defense is obviously a big concern.

His bat is definitely not on par with JD

It's a bit difficult not to worry that we're in danger of this offseason becoming a rerun of last, with splashes early and then a lot of expectations for another move that happened.

Not as far off as you might think... JD put up a 132 wRC+ in 2019 and just a year ago in 2018 Castellanos put up a 130 wRC+... granted Castellanos fell to a 121 wRC+ in 2019, I'm betting on the 28 year old to hold steady or even progress some rather than the 34 year old who is very likely to regress.

Yep except last year it was reversed and we fixed the offense but skimped on the bullpen. Hopefully it’s not a repeat.

Its an if... I'm not sure about a big if one year removed from performance

He's a career .338/.382 hitter in 2232 minor league PAs, and a career .328/.438 hitter in 1028 major league PAs. After 3260 PAs, we know what he is at this point: good enough to start at an up-the-middle position if he has the glove, a contributing bench player at a corner for a contender, or a starter at a corner for a losing ballclub. It really is a strong comp to what Longoria is now, who has devolved into a .325/.437 hitter, and no one who isn't living in the past thinks he is good enough for a contending corner.

So Moose is only making 5 million a year less than JD. That’s crazy. I love JD but that 4th year was always a sticking point and Minny offered a 5th with a buyout so he could make more which probably pushed it over the edge for us.
