Official Offseason Thread

AA acquire Josh Donaldson from the A’s. Matt Chapman looks like Donaldson but younger. What we need to give to trade for him?

A lot, Chapman is under control 4 more years. But he's one of the few guys i'd give up Pache for.

Does seem payroll is gonna jump some, not sure how much, but after the Martin/Smith deals. I have no idea what AA's up to, and that's both exciting and scary at the same time.

I’m not sure why everyone thinks the A’s want to trade Chapman. They are already a playoff caliber team and he makes next to nothing and is under control for a long time. They have never suggested they may trade him.

yeah i was wondering where this idea came from. i guess because he’s good and a young and a fit. which may have something to do with why the A’s will keep him. we’ll never know tho.

They are winning the wild card but if the Angels sign Gerrit Cole and Ohtani come back they probably will not make the playoffs.

I brought it up during the season but more of a "you never know who's gonna be available" type of an idea. With the A's, you never know who's available, but certainly you'd think a franchise caliber player making peanuts on a competing team with payroll constraints would be extremely hard to pry away.

Angels would need alot more than Cole to get in the playoffs, probably would need Cole and 1-2 more SP along with a high impact bat or two. Jo Adell is gonna get called up this year, wish Braves got him in that draft, he is the real deal.

I’m not sure they’re that far. Add Cole, a guy like DK/Hamels/MadBum and Adell and they’re sitting a lot better. If I’m them, I go after Stras to save money and add DK/Hamels/MadBum and Teheran.

Cole isn’t putting them over the A’s.

No. But Cole/Strasburg, Ohtani, and say DK would be a pretty formidable trio. If they strike out on on the top 2, I'd expect them to get Ryu, which isn't as sexy as Cole or Stras, but has been just as effective at preventing runs the past 2 seasons. Would still be a semi-long shot to topple the A's/Stros, but it's the makings of a pretty good team. Having the best player in baseball certainly helps.

Dont think Stras would go there, most signs point to Stras staying in DC.

I’ve been mentioning this every time anChapman trade is suggested. He might be available next offseason when he’s due to hit arb for the first time though.

What say you about the rumored Braves outspending the Mets $160 million payroll this season?

This is in reference to the thing I mentioned above ... and that's not at all how I understood the quote.

What the...??

You have descended to a new level of stupidity...stretched out to 1000 words.

Grandal's deal fell exactly in line with expectations. My comments about Grandal perhaps preferring a shorter deal with a higher AAV were speculation about what it would take for him to sign with the Braves. Obviously, he didn't prefer 2/40, and the Braves didn't get him. Your lack of reading comprehension is the source of you thinking I was wrong.

I have stated at least a dozen times the splurge on the BP was completely unexpected...as has almost every single competent poster on these boards. Literally nobody saw the Smith move coming. This is another example of you trying to use "you're just as dumb as everyone else" as an insult, and it's very odd.

I have also been continually adjusting my projections for opening day payroll as we get more information,. That's what analysts do...analyze data as it becomes available. I figured $130M, and now we have come to a consensus it may be closer to $140M. This isn't religion...intelligent people understand conclusions change as more data becomes available. The fact you see it as a negative shows how stupid you are.

And no, clown, JD isn't giving the Braves a 25% discount. Now off you go to flex your lifetime membership to the IBWAA and write something about trading Albies for Dee Gordon.

You're an idiot. Everyone here knows you're an idiot. Just accept it and spare us the long rambling posts.

The problem is you speak in absolutes - you don't "analyze" *hit and leave room for the possibility that there are things you have no knowledge about. You've consistently said that there's no chance the Braves play at the top end of the RP market, yet they're paying $34 million to Melancon, Smith, and Martin and another $6-7 million to Greene if they decide to keep him. You've said time and again that payroll WILL NOT exceed $130 million and that anyone who believes otherwise is an idiot, only to backtrack when Greg Maffei himself comes out and admits they plan to spend more money.

You keep telling people they don't know anything when the simple truth is that you have absolutely no information that every poster here can't read on the internet, and that fact hurts your ego so badly you have to act like a 12 year old. Of course I could be wrong about that - has AA been hanging out at your blackjack table? What kind of drink does he like when he plays?

Does this fit?? From MLBTR last night, opening 2 paragraphs of a long article.

Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei briefly discussed the Braves offseason outlook in a television appearance on CNBC yesterday. In the course of a ten-minute interview with CNBC’s David Faber, Maffei indicated that the club plans to “spend some money” this winter, even after the club’s recent addition of roughly $30MM in new commitments to their 2020 payroll.

“We’re well set up…with young talent,” Maffei told Faber before referencing Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies as some of the club’s key young players. “But in addition, we just signed Will Smith–probably the best reliever in baseball. Yeah, we’re going to spend some money, and we have relative freedom under the cap and in our payroll compared to most people, including the Mets.”

This is what Todd was talking about. The Braves guy says they have more room to spend under their internal payroll cap than the Mets, and fans take it to mean the Braves are going to spend more than the Mets. Or the Braves are going to go on a spending spree.

I’m going to guess we’ve had the Braves likely payroll figure pretty well pegged for months now around this board.

Again, your complete lack of reading comprehension and desperation to find me being wrong is why you think you “got me”. I never once said the payroll will never exceed $130M, only that everything we know suggests that figure. Now we know more, and an opening day figure up to about $140M and overall value of $150M+ makes sense....maybe.

There’s really no point explaining it to you anymore. Literally everyone on this board knows you’re a moron, and they point it out over and over. You are the butt of jokes on this board for a reason. That reason? You are a joke.

People come to this board to see my opinion on things. They ask for my opinion directly. Nobody comes here looking to read one of your 1000 word derpfests where you ramble off every name in baseball in a pathetic attempt to have been the first to suggest something.
