Official Offseason Thread

Cincinnati being idiots. What are they going to do with senzel and Suarez? They clearly want to compete. They have hitters but need arms. If I’m aa I want to see how dumb they are. Can I get them to jump on the poo poo platter? They need a cf so inciarte. Senzel to 3b. Trade One of our catching prospects, Wright, Wilson, muller and Davidson?

The opposite actually. They have good pitching. They don't have much hitting. Suarez and Winker were their only reliable hitters prior to signing Moose Tacos. Votto has finally hit the last stages of his decline. I'd expect Senzel to improve, but you can't exactly pencil him in as a big offensive contributor yet.

Reds need a big bat either in the OF or at SS.

And Rosenthal just mentioned on Hot Stove that they're "in" on Wheeler.

He says that Wheeler has "at least" one offer of 5/$100 million in hand already.

If they somehow have the resources to add Didi and Wheeler, they're going to scare a lot of people.

Shaw would be a good guy to do a deep dive into his 2019 stats. First glance tells us his exit velocities were within his normal range, and that .214 BABIP was pretty rough.

Agree. At the very least, he'd be a quality 300 AB bench guy who would give us a legitimate back-up at 1B in addition to playing a lot of 3B and he could be more than that.

With how thin the 3rd base market is, I highly doubt Shaw is going to sign somewhere to be a bench guy.

That might be true, but someone may have to break it to Travis that he probably is a bench guy. He's a lifetime mid-.600 OPS guy against LHP, so he looks like a platoon guy wherever he goes. If the Braves are confident Camargo could do the RHH part of a platoon with Shaw, it could be a possibility. Problem for the Braves is that they would be putting a huge question mark on a key position in the batting order.

What's better than a double platoons in the OF? A double platoon in the OF with a third at 3rd.

And with a manager who thinks the only good platoon was a movie from the 80s.

If the blurbs that Rendon is going to sign sooner rather than later are true, this is all liable to shake itself out pretty quickly. If Rendon signs with the Rangers or Dodgers and the Rangers/Dodgers/Phillies/Gnats gobble Donaldson up, AA may have no choice other than to sign Ozuna and platoon someone with Riley or Camargo if he wants to have a legitimate middle of the order bat behind Freddie - who else is out there???

I don't think ANYONE wants to commit 4/$100 million to Donaldson but I said last week that that's probably what it's going to take, and I still believe that.

Interesting starting pitching:

Gausman - might be a good long man
Tajuan Walker - flyer off injury
Jimmy Nelson - not sure where he is in his cycle of injury, but decent when briefly healthy

Cesar Hernandez - not sure where he would fit on the Braves but solid player
Travis Shaw - Actually does fit the Braves as a left handed utility man that with a bounce back might be a mid-line 3B starter for cheap. If that is the case, you would want to see an OF acquisition.
Kevin Pillar - CF - not what he was and not ideal but perhaps useful in a scenario where Inciarte's money is dealt.
Blake Treinen - will be someone's reclamation project, but hard to see it being in Atlanta giving the previous offseason investments.

One of the Brewers' broadcasters was on XM earlier and said that his understanding is that they believe that Nelson's never going to be healthy again.

With deals like Mous the only people the Reds are going to scare are their own fans.

Keep kidding yourself. Add Moose and Didi to that offense and bring Hamilton back on the cheap to replace Senzel defensively in close games and they're the favorites to win the Central. Add Wheeler to that rotation and they've got a chance to beat anybody in a playoff series.

Save your arguments for the Council of Sabermetriceae. You're gonna need it Arius.

The love affair with Didi is hilarious.

Give me Blake Treinen and move Luke Jackson!
