Official Offseason Thread

so... our payroll is over $130 and we don't have a full rotation, a cleanup hitter or a 3B.

I think the rest of our moves are either internal or trades.

Even if we trade for players those salaries have to be accounted for, thus increasing our current budget.

Either payroll has gone way higher than any of us thought it would or AA is hot on the trail of a young cheap player.

There is also the possibility that he has something in the works to offload a little salary, although I don't know who it would be from. I guess Melancon or Inciarte would make the most sense, but I don't see us trading Ender and creating another hole there.

I could see MM or Greene due to the pen depth.

A back 6 of O'Day/Greene/MM/Luke/Martin/Smith is pretty nasty though if no one gets dealt.

Giants are looking for a center field and we are looking for a third base. Evan Longaria straight for Ender Inciarte is enough?

pretty good article on our offseason so far but kinda sobering in regards to ownership as well.
27th in free agent spending in the decade.
Interesting read. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28225476/adding-cole-hamels-latest-sign-braves-mean-business-offseason

Trey Mancini. Can we get him for Kyle Wright or Wilson? Mueller plus touki?

That seems like an impact bat we could get.

Maybe we can help his defense.

What i dont like about this players is that we have Pache and Waters coming soon. We should not spend our prospects if we are not getting something with real value. Thats why i like Starling Marte.

Longoria has 5 WAR in the last 3 years combined, and will make $58 million the next three years. Austin Riley is a better option than that, and Riley is a lousy option.
Thats why i say a few weeks ago we should go for a cheap third baseman. To handler the position for the first few months and then bring Riley from AAA. I don’t want Longoria! But i see Giants probably they are looking for a center field and Braves looking for a third baseman.

Yes? So is better to pay 25 millions for Donaldson for 3 to 4 years?

I would much rather pay Donaldson 3/75 rather than be stuck paying a <2 WAR 3rd baseman around 17 million per year. You're basically talking about an extra 8 million for 2.5 wins extra per year. Donaldson is just much better.

If they are content with the outfield for now and can resign JD, what about trading for say Boyd? The rotation and bullpen would be lights out at that point.

Donaldson is better but my question right now is who say Donaldson will sign for 3 years? Plus I am not sure Donaldson will produce 4.5 or 5 war for the length of that contract.

Plus you can sign or trade for Ozuna or Marte.

JD for 3+ years is scary. That 3rd and 4th year are gonna be serious decline years almost certainly

Eh. Donaldson is a better defender than Chipper was.

And his plate discipline is just as good and he accumulates a lot of walks still. Sure his homer total might dip to 20-25 but if he's still walking a lot that's really good. Just requires a manager who can slot him in the part of the lineup where those walks become valuable.
