With the indpending changes from the CBA wouldnt it make sense to sign Castellanos if we aren't hurt by his defense in 3 years?

I don't trade him but Pache fits the bill perfectly, which makes sense that the Rockies are said to love ATL's prospect core.

Waters probably doesn't play CF ever but he would be of interest, I'd guess.

Braves reported interest in JD, Ozuna and Castellanos. All 3 repped by Boras. Looks like Boras is playing the market and not putting but one player out there at a time. He seems to know that if Braves miss on JD they will then move on to NC.

JD and Ozuna arent Boras. Only Castellanos is.

Pass for me too. There are fallback options such as Frazier and Longoria that have not been much discussed here. All depends on price of course. But I'm hoping AA continues to emphasize value and flexibility. Frazier on a one year deal might be a good fallback option.

I thought about Frazier the other day. Maybe sign Holt and Frazier and hope that platoon bears fruit? Not ideal, but very low risk. And who knows, maybe next-offseason Chapman, Suarez, Anderson, or Ramirez become available?

I think some team could get a steal with Castellanos if he ends up waiting too long like FAs from years past.

If we signed Frazier then we would have to no doubt get a big hitting COF. I still think one of JD or Bryant will be at 3b for Atlanta next year.

I wish Castellanos could still play third. If he could he’d be a good fit for us. However, if he could still play third I’m sure he’d be seeking more money and others would be in on him too.

Interesting thing about Castellanos is that his OF defense improved from horrid in 2018 to merely below average in 2019. He is only 27, and his 2019 sprint speed was above MLB average at 27.9 ft/s...right in line with Riley's.

Much like Riley surprised with his OF competency, maybe Castellanos can make it work out there too. Perhaps he wouldn't be the disaster we fear in LF over the next 3-4 years.

Would love to hear that AA had worked out a Robert/Jimenez-like deal with Pache - not sure how the numbers would have to look since Pache doesn't exactly have their offensive upside (yet), but having inexpensive cost-certainty with three potential All-Stars would be huge for a team in this market. We'd no longer have to worry about gaming his clock, putting Ender in play immediately. If Colorado would eat $50-$70 million worth of Arenado's deal, go ahead and give them Riley, Wright, and Waters. With the Melancon/Hamels/Greene/Markakis/Flowers money coming off the books next winter, you could add Pederson to platoon with Duvall or Camargo with Shewmake taking over as the utility guy. He could then work on a reasonable extension with Freeman and have the entire core under control for pretty much the entirety of Acuna's deal.

No thanks on 4 years. But, I'd certainly do 3 years and 50ish million for Castellanos.

Baseball Reference says all 3 are Boras clients. So are they wrong or am I?

JD or Ozuna arent Boras. Like 100 percent sure on that. Castellanos is. Ryu, Moose, Stras, Rendon, Castellanos, and Cole were Boras' major FA's this winter. Probably missing one.

You're both wrong.

Yeah JD and Ozuna aren’t Boras clients. I wouldn’t mind NC, he seemed to be better after joining the Cubs.

Getting old is no fun but I swear before I put up the first one above, B-R noted all 3 as Boras clients. AFTER I put up the second one JD is listed as a MVP client but Ozuna and NC with Boras. Im afraid to go back and check again. LOL

I'm very much against the idea of sticking with Camargo and Riley, and they're a better choice than Longo. He is done, done, done. Trade for him, you're gong to get $20 million in value in four years, for some portion of the $60 million he's owed. Or you can get the exact same production from Camargo and Riley for a mil a year.
