Official Offseason Thread

4/104 isnt horrible APY wise, could probably even move JD in that final year if it's a 10-14 mil cap hit. If thats indeed true.

Since JD is giving the Braves a 25% discount, that means another team offered him 4/138.

JD is a helluva guy to pass up $34M just to play for the Braves!

This is from Ken's latest article, confirms Braves are at 4 years.

Donaldson, 34, reportedly is mulling four-year offers from the Nationals, Braves and Twins. He has informed teams of his desired guarantee and is simply waiting for one of the clubs to hit his number, sources say. That number is believed to be in the $110 million range.

No viable alternative to Donaldson remains on the free-agent market; outfielders Marcell Ozuna and Nick Castellanos, the other top position players available, are lesser defenders and less accomplished hitters. Thus, Donaldson is in position to wait for the deal he wants, similar to the way Bryce Harper and Manny Machado waited until February to sign last offseason.

Where did the 25% discount come from? Not doubting you, just curious how legit that rumor really is.

If we’re willing to go 4/104 and he wants 4/110 just split the difference and give him 4/107 and be done with this ordeal. The 3 million over the 4 years is only an additional 750k per year.

Our resident lifetime member of the Internet Baseball Writers Association. Probably closer to a 20% discount though I guess.

If AA's willing to go 4/$80 million, I don't think there's much chance Donaldson leaves unless the other bidders will go to $100 million.

Still, JD passing up $130M+ to sign with the Braves for $104M is quite the bargain!

I don’t see AA waiting until February to fill 3b. To many other options could be off the table by then. Bc once Bryant’s grievance is settled more teams will pivot towards him. I still think Arenado could be a strong target if the money is right.

I like Arenado most if they eat money and Arenado waives his opt out clause of some kind. Obviously depends what players go the Rockies way too.

I think most JD offers are in the 4/90 to 105 mil range or so. If he got 4/130+, he'd sign already.

If we're at 4-100, just give him 4-110 if it keeps him away from the Nats.

Yup, athletic enough to play D1 ball and intelligent enough to write math software for a gaming company.

You’re...nothing. At all. A literal nothing.

Wait...you’re the best lifetime member of the IBWAA to spend $99 on said membership, call yourself the lead editor of a blog...that failed.

Well done boomer!!

Funny thing about that - you honestly believe anyone here gives a *hit.

Apparently you didn't have to read to be a famous D1 baseball player - your precious quote says "unless" the other teams go to $100 million, no?

They did, so AA has to pony up. The only person who ever suggested a player was/is willing to give a 20% discount is you.

According to your own words you were a walk-on that never even practiced for the team. What's the truth, bud?

Lol my stalker emerges from the weeds after months of no posts.

How exactly does a walk-on not practice with the team, genius?
