Lol can we please not repeat this exercise? Regardless of what we might want and why, Acuna will continue to bat leadoff until we get a new manager

He should stay leadoff, i think the lowest he should hit is 2nd.

Passan- The St. Louis Cardinals are trading OF Jose Martinez, OF Randy Arozarena and a Compensation A pick (after 1st round) to the Tampa Bay Rays for LHP prospect Matt Liberatore, a low-level catching prospect and Compensation B pick (post-2nd), sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

I’m assuming that Matt Liberatore must be a pretty good prospect if he’s been talked about on our board as someone who could go in a trade for Arenado.

May I ask who he compares to in our system? Not necessarily which pitcher is he like, but who is he comparable from a grade standpoint? Pache? Waters? Anderson?

Thanks!

I think Waters/Pache/Anderson are better prospects, i'd say Wright is.

Wright most likely.

I like that trade for the Rays. Martinez could be a pretty good DH, so that's nice. But that outfielder they got looks really intriguing.

Oh right you guys like to wine about payroll all winter and then give these aging superstars 100 mil apiece. Same old story here.

Lol. No. I just don’t know why you ranted like that while quoting what I said. And why would Boston trade Bette for FF. Go be a dummy on reddit please.

And I do like a good wine.

DOB said this Monday.

As of Monday afternoon, the Braves still were widely perceived as front-runners in the Donaldson pursuit over the Washington Nationals, who made a series of signings in recent days that seemed to indicate they don’t expect to land Donaldson, and the Minnesota Twins, who made it known in recent days that they don’t expect Donaldson to end up in Minneapolis.

Matt Liberatore to the Cards, per Passan.

Hasnt said who is going the Rays way, yet.

Liberatore is going to be a stud - think Fried. Cards did really well here, but this is one of those few deals the Rays make to help the MLB club - and it will.

Might be. I won’t go that far though. Trade for another trade are very hard. Any team could jump in at last minute and sink the deal. Would the cards trade Gorman and Libby for Nolan. That seems like an overpay.

Considering the fact that Gorman may not stick at 3B, maybe not. The Cards have Flaherty, Hudson, and Mikolas under control affordably for a while - it smells just like the type of deal they would make. They can probably still spin Montero off for a pretty good lower level arm to "replace" Liberatore despite his so-so year last season.

Do we really want Swanson or Ender potentially getting more at bats every game than Acuna?

The average difference over the course of a season between 1st and 2nd is 14. 14 fewer PAs with probably 50 more runners on when batting? Abso-freaking-lutely.

JD definitely isn’t getting anywhere close to 110. He may have pushed 2 potential bidders away only leaving us. AA is smart enough to know that too. We’ll see what happens but when the Bryant news breaks about his service time we may move on to if we can strike a deal with the Cubs.

I’ll believe Minnesota and Washington have moved on when they make an actual move that precludes signing Donaldson.

I agree with your point that 110 million seems highly unlikely though. I suspect we find out within the next week.

The Nationals haven’t brought in a big bat to replace Rendon but they’ve spread their money around in several areas to build a deeper roster. So in a way they’ve made the moves to deepen their team in case they don’t get JD.

Yes but Thames isn’t going to stop them from finding a spot for Donaldson.

If we see one of these teams trade for Arenado/Bryant/Seager then I could see Donaldson’s camp re-evaluate their situation.
