Maybe. I mean they cheated sure. But why is this even a thing. Why are teams so stupid to think a game with cameras at every angle might produce cheaters. Why not change signs throughout the game. That way if a team is cheating that next inning should be comical. I just don’t get why sign stealing is illegal in the first place. Really the easiest thing to protect.

If you implemented a quality machine learning program into your cheating scam it would be next to impossible to fool. AI can pick up on simple patterns like that extremely quickly. Mark Rober created a simple app on his phone that could do it. A giant team with immense amounts of resources could create something vastly superior.

So I guess the only option for a team to relay signs is to stick fingers down.

heh?
the Braves needed an actual starter..not a guy who may or may not give you 75 innings of likely mediocre pitching. Wood is a huge gamble if you're relying on him..Hamels isn't.

I guess I don't think Hamels is sure to be good or healthy. And I'd have preferred to add say Ozuna.

Here's the problem. All of the MLB feeds/cameras in the park are on a time delay to prevent stuff just like this. The Astros had their own cameras in secret and not sponsored or approved by MLB, being analyzed in real time by to a secret monitor near the dugout where they could bang the trash can or whatever. They also supposedly had scouts with ear pieces in the crowd talking to people in the dugout.

This isn't ordinary sign stealing. Its going way above and beyond with an obvious ill intent.

I get what they did. I agree they cheated and it was dumb. I just never got why teams never took any measures to prevent this type of cheating. It isn’t hard to at least change the signs every inning. My stance is probably jaded. I am not trying to defend the stros. In fact they should suspend all the 2017 players and replay the cardinals series with McCann not starting.

much more likely than Wood, and clearly better when healthy.
Ozuna is going to get multiple years at Hamels' money+. Not signing Hamels doesn't make it much more likely that you sign Ozuna, IMO.

He and his agent bit off more than they could chew. I don't think he going to come close to what he's asking for.

His main suitors (Us, Minne, and Wash) haven't moved on to other options at this time. Might as well wait until someone blinks. I'd be willing to bet that if one of these teams drops out, JD will move pretty quick rather than keep waiting it out.

MN did re-up Sano for 3 years.

Washington signed some, albeit cheap, guys. i don't think it takes them out of the running for him, but it probably works to lower the leverage he has over them. as in, i think it will lower the amount they're willing to give him. of course i could end up wrong...
