What reporter hasn’t? Regardless of your opinion of him he is still one of the top MLB reporters out there. Didn’t he break the Cole signing this offseason and a few others?
 
I know we have a ton of outfielders, but if the price was reasonable, i'd have been in on him.

I dont know about going for it. AZ had a top 5 RD in the NL, and was insanely unlucky last year. They have a good club.
 
The #Dbacks make a splash once again this offseason by acquiring Starling Marte from the #Pirates in exchange for prospects Liover Peguero and Brennan Malone.
 
That doesnt seem like a ton, 9th and 18th best prospects per Pipeline.

Another note, Pirates make some really stupid deals. AA could have fleeced them if he wanted.

That's mainly because Malone was just drafted in 2019 and is only 19 and Peguero is also a really young guy. Neither have made it above A ball. Huge ceiling guys that will easily be top prospects in their best case scenarios. I think its a pretty good haul for Pitt personally.

Is there any scenario where this makes Ketel Marte available??

I honestly don't even know where to find enough common ground for dialogue if you think those behaviours standard and credible. His levels of honesty and rigour are in line with what we expect from a political editorialist, shock jock, or supermarket tabloid writer. The standards of sports journalism are certainly lower than in other areas, but they aren't that low.

Zero that Marte definitely isn't available, I think the DBack are "trying" to make a run. If the Padres get Betts I think the DBacks are still a 3rd place team in the division.

Nah AZ is still 2nd, SF and Col fighting for 4th and 5th. Padres 3rd with or without Betts.

I wouldn't think so. They were 85-77 last year and just added a player with limited remaining control.

They have a pretty crowded outfield now.... Calhoun/Marte/Marte/Peralta

Unless they plan on putting him back at SS or something.

Ketel Marte has a great contract and just came off a 6.9 WAR season, absolutely no chance.

Marte can play all over the field, could see him shift back to 2B, and have Calhoun/Starling/Peralta as their outfield.

Fangraphs has Peguero 5th in their organization and puts a Jean Segura comp on the 18 year old.

I can't imagine why they would make Ketel available after acquiring Starling.

It was more just an off the cuff wondering out loud type thing without looking actually at Ketel's stats... after looking, I realize there's no chance... still I really like Peguero and Malone... very high upside young guys.
