Official Playoff Thread

I'm quite surprised by Pressly. He was a "meh" set-up guy up here in Minnesota prone to producing Maalox moments. I don't know how much magic is left in their wand (or sticky stuff in their vat), but Pressly's another pedestrian pitcher who has elevated his game since landing in Houston.

I didn’t know that! Good stuff. Sucks we didn’t sign him.

Back during the 40-round draft era, a lot of the picks between 30 and 40 were favors to scouts, folks connected with the team, or a longshot to sign (sometimes a combination of the three). For instance, Braves drafted Paul Byrd's son Grayson Byrd in the 39th round a year before Pena and everyone knew Grayson was heading to LSU. Sometimes it was putting some chips on the table to tell the prospect "we really like you as a player and we hope to draft you again later." Braves did that with Kimbrel, drafting him in the 33rd round in 2007 and the 3rd in 2008.

As a footnote, Pena's father--Geronimo Pena (not to be confused with former Brave Ramiro Pena)--was a decent utility guy for the Cardinals in the mid-1990s. Interesting story about how the Pena's ended up in Rhode Island from this 2015 article from The Providence Journal: https://www.providencejournal.com/s...7/john-gillooly-classical-s-pena/34752738007/

Basically everyone Houston gets pitching wise turns into a stud. Verlander looked wash, and he's elite again. Guys like Urquidy, Valdez, Luis Garcia, Javier are good. Basically everyone in that bullpen shoves. They've sacrified their elite offense for an elite pitching staff. Not that they dont have hitters, but the offense isnt as dangerous as it used to be from 17-20.

So the new hot rumor for the Trashstros is they are soaking their bats in vinegar to make them harder.

Just what I’ve heard.
