Official Playoff Thread

FF unconditional love I don't get. He had a chance to be Chipper. Chipper told him not to go to FA. FF decided he wanted 20 million more than he wanted to be a brave. That is his right but he did it. I think he made a mistake b/c long term being a brave for life would have gotten him a ton of off the field and after career options.

I get if AA is paying 20 million to 2-3 WAR morton, why not give FF more...but AA has to plan for the entire team and plan for years ahead. And AA has earned my trust on this. He's not perfect, nobody is who has to predict the future. But his track record is very good.

I'm not hating FF, but I'm not thinking of him as anyone special. With deferred money and taxes he took less to be a dodger.

Mets entire plan is that Max + DeGrom wins you playoff series.

If they lose the Braves series and go 0-2 vs padres....that will be hilarious.

deGrom is leaving I think. I don't think the Braves can afford it. But I think a loss in the WC round and deGrom will take less to get to a team he thinks can actually win. Hope it's not the dodgers. To be clear, less is still going to be a crazy amount of money, just less than Cohen's blank check.

DeGrom staying just depends if the Mets want to keep him or not. No one can offer more than they will, i dont think. I dont think DeGrom to the Dodgers is something they'd do, i think they'd be more adapt to make a run at Diaz given the situation with their closer situation this year.

Their SP situation is a little tricky next year though. Buehler is out most of the year, Heaney and Anderson are FA's, as well as Kershaw, only guys they have are Gonsolin and Urias back next season. There's been a TON of smoke with DeGrom to Atlanta, but i just cant see it unless he took a massive paycut to join the Braves. We'd have to get rid of Odo, Ozuna, Eddie to get DeGrom and keep Dansby to just be under the luxury tax threshold, or we'd probably still go over lol. I guess there are certain players you go over for.

Red Sox, cubs, or Yankees could ante up. Maybe the rangers

I think he'd want something like 3/120/4-160+, i'm not sure who is doing that given his injury past. He'd obviously have a big market if the Mets wont pony up for him.

Maybe the orioles pony up to kick off their contention window

If he left New York, i think he'd want to go to a legit contender. But not sure who would go 3 or 4 years at 40+ per with his injury history. Just takes one team though. I think his market is 2 years, 40+, but i could be wrong if the Mets wouldnt pay up.

Pretty sure if we win the WS this year the finances will not be an issue. It’s ironic - we are playing for this year but these deep playoff runs really set the stage for our team the following season as well.

Aren't the orioles about to be a legit contender? They have a great farm, and they look close. Adding a degrom, big bat, and some pen could make them a nice club

He won’t get it from anybody but the Mets

It will be interesting, we should know the Braves level of involvement fairly early. Once AA zeros in on a guy at their offseason meetings, he usually acts fast in getting that deal done. So if we get to the new year and deGrom is still unsigned, he obviously wasn't a main target of ours and will only sign with us if he takes a big time discount, which he won't

Has DeGrom not lost a bit of his shine this season? I doubt $40M will come his way this year.

If he got 40, it's on a short-term deal. Or the Mets overpaid for him if he got 40+, do agree im not sure who is giving him 40 if it isnt Cohen.

Guardians just had the bases loaded with no outs...didn't score

Going to top of the 7th tied 0-0

Nail-biter of a series if you are a fan of either team. The Guardians took yesterdays game 2-1 on a HR from Ramirez in the 6th inning I believe. Today, both teams are tied 0-0 going into the 9th with the Rays on verge of elimination.
