So you would potentially be ok with a college player with a questionable hit tool but major power? But not a HS player with a questionable hit tool but major power?

I would much rather take the chance on the HS kid. A college player with a questionable hit tool is extremely unlikely to ever develop that tool. A HS player absolutely can.

I guess I should have been more specific. I would take a gamble on a college player with hit tool questions if they already possessed and have shown plus MLB power in games. A player like Lewis fits this description.

HS players almost never have that type of present power, their power is all projection. If they have hit questions and their power is all projection, no thanks. HS players like Harper and very rare. Give me the Hs kid with a solid hit tool and then work on strength and swing plane to develop power as he matures.

I don't think he's necessarily in play at 5, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Braves are way higher on Vientos than the public. He fits their mold age-wise and also is a former Kiley McDaniel darling.

Link or scouting report?

I would certainly think Vientos could be in play with our 2nd Round pick if he somehow lasted that far or we were able to get someone's Competitive Balance pick.

I have been curious if that sort of trade was going to materialize.

Here are the first set of comp picks (the only ones that come before the Braves 2nd pick):

31 Tampa Bay Rays
Pick value: $2,134,900

32 Cincinnati Reds
Pick value: $2,084,400

33 Oakland Athletics
Pick value: $2,033,500

34 Milwaukee Brewers
Pick value: $1,983,600

35 Minnesota Twins
Pick value: $1,935,300

36 Miami Marlins
Pick value: $1,888,800

All of those teams but the Marlins are rebuilding and/or highly value draft picks. Unless the Marlins are willing to deal and push for a WC slot, I doubt Coppy will be able to exchange present value for any of those picks.

I think the Twins are linked to one of the top J2 prospects. Maybe we can move some bonus pool money to them.

Keith Law's rankings updated today: Hunter Greene, Kyle Wright, Brendan McKay, Royce Lewis, JB Bukauskas.

Other Braves-related names: MacKenzie Gore 6, Jeren Kendall 10, Austin Beck 12.

Jordan Adell out of his top 50 because of hit tool concerns.

Very interesting that Adell has fallen like that. Or perhaps Law always had him that low.

But his performance seems to have been extremely good so far this season, so I wonder where the hit tool concerns derive from.

But if these end up being near consensus, then I sincerely hope we go Beck.

What's crazy, is that because of the way this season has gone with vets signed and injuries. Swanson is really the only prospect that will loose eligibility on our prospect list this year. We will only really add to it with the draft.

They're not giving up $1.9 million of money to use in the draft for international bonus pool money. That $1.9 million is a huge deal for rebuilding teams.

Let me rephrase..."what I'm hoping". It is a long shot, but probably the only shot we have for the most part.

Not only that, I don't know how much I want to be giving up our international pool money. We can still use that entire pool, we just can't sign anyone for more than $300,000 individually. But considering that range is where we've done some of our best work, I would rather just take as many of those guys as we can.

Comp Balance Round B picks -- this might be the area we are realistically able to trade for;

68 - Dbacks -880k
69 - Padres - 858k
70 - Rockies - 837k
71 - Indians - 816k
72 - Pirates - 804k
73 - Royals - 791k
74 - Orioles - 779k
75 - Astros - 767k

Maybe you can target the pick from Baltimore, Colorado, Houston, or Cleveland? All are contending type teams.
