Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Something involving Bellinger for Fletcher plus a prospect might make some sense.

If AA is going to upgrade the OF I hope he sets his sights higher though.

136 and 111 OPS+ the last two years. Unless we’re getting Soto, I don’t see how we can do much better than that.

Ironically, we’d have probably been better off just keeping Soler if we were going that route.

Except for being unplayable in the OF... yes

I think a deal for Bellinger would look like Bellinger/Luke Little for Fletcher and the Cubs eat 10 million of his 2026 salary if he doesnt opt out. He would have to be really bad to not opt out after this year. I value Little at about 10 million.

Seems tilted in the Braves' favor by a bit. I think if the Cubs are going to eat that much money and take on Fletcher, they either won't give us Little or would require we send along one of our second-tier pitching prospects (Hackenberg, Braun, Kuehler, etc.).

Fine by me.

The only salary they eat is Fletcher unless Bellinger really tanks in 2025. I guarantee you any deal for Bellinger will include significant money paid by the Cubs if he doesnt opt out for 2026 because he would have to get hurt or be a below average hitter.

But the way you've structured the deal, the Braves would only be paying $11 MM for Bellinger and the Cubs have no need for Fletcher unless they are opening a sports book. I could see the Cubs sending a prospect along with Bellinger and kicking in $10 MM, but I don't see how we could convince them to take Fletcher off our hands without sending a prospect of our own to Chicago. Could be an interesting deal if one could match the pieces.

Bellinger makes 27.5 million in 2025. Fletcher makes 6.5 million in 2025. 27.5 million minus 6.5 million is 21 million.

Right, but if I understand your proposal, the Cubs would throw in another $10 MM bringing it down to $11 MM.

EDIT: I misread your proposal. The $10 MM would be for 2026. Got it.

I hope we either swing a deal for Crochet or get Sasaki somehow. Saw the Phillies were after Crochet earlier.
