Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

still think it is better to just punt this off season... there is nothing really exciting that is left and there are no trades that make the team better going past this season when money can be used for good FA.. Just buy a reliever and go see where the team sits come all star break... Right now I don't think anyone is beating the Dodger$.. I know the randomness of the game is the biggest parity factor, but there is only so much randomness that can wash talent disparity and the Dodger$ are way better than every other team.

No need to put a ton of pressure on Acuna and Strider to come back and immediately start providing WS caliber play.

If punting was a serious option, I'd be seeing what we could get for Ozuna and Iglesias.

Perhaps, but this could be our last effective season with sale, and we also lose iggy. If AA does punt this season and the braves don't rebound in 2026, AA should be fired

I said this OFFSEASON.. the team can very well still make the playoffs and a single deadline addition or two could close the talent gap enough to justify trading prospects for.

No one knows how Acuna and Strider are going to come back and without those guys producing all star level talent, this team will be very average as is. So punt the rest of the offseason except some bench depth maybe and reliever help and see how everything shakes out.

I have no doubts that AA is going to have to make some tough decisions next year...

Punting the offseason when you may not have your best player and one of your two best pitchers for the first month or two and you have holes in the outfield, bullpen, and rotation is the first step toward punting the season.

But if we don't spend the 20 million we have available right now, that means we could have 40 million to spend at the deadline.

4D Chess.

Lol @ thinking AA would punt. People were telling him to punt at the deadline last year and we still made the playoffs. You don't waste a year of your stars contract and in the middle of your contending window while having a top 5 payroll. I know he'd like to reset the tax of course to make it easier going forward but in no way is gonna punt anything. He wouldn't be looking to spend 15 per on Hoffman or Scott if that were the case.

AA is just being smart with the money here and I'm glad. A lot of guys this offseason got to much but I'm hoping Tanner Scott just wanted to be in LA and took less money so it isn't on AA. AA has gotten spoiled to getting stuff the way he wants it like the Sale trade and people aren't giving in anymore it seems so he's gonna have to learn he's gonna have to pay market value and he's trying to adjust.

yes, I agree.. but what has AA done about any of those things?

I am just saying don't be shocked if the season starts and all the Braves have added was infield depth and a mid tier reliever(s) with AA saying the market didn't play out the way he had hoped and they are going to continue to find ways to improve the team as the season progresses.

Anderson and Holmes are out of options.. so the Braves have about 9-10 pitchers who are a sure thing come the end of spring

Strider, Sale, Lopez, Schwelly, Anderson, Holmes, Riggy, Lee, Bummer, Prince Albert (Lee has one option year and Not sure about Bummer, but both of those guys are better than twit thinks and should be mainstays on the team)

But the Braves have 3 slots open that they could fill for the 26 man roster unless they really believe in (Elder, AJSS, Daysbal, Perdomo or Gillepse)

You would think AA wants to add at least 2 names to that list before the season starts.. that is a very thin group as far as depth goes...

really hoping one of the 'on the cusp' pitching prospects takes that next step that us Braves fans have come accustomed too (Harris, Strider, Schwelly)

We have several guys that can take big steps this yeah. SS came out of nowhere last year so maybe we have another come through this year. Between AJSS, Waldrep, Richie, Murphy, and Hackenberg somebody should surprise us. I didn't include Caminiti bc he won't factor in for a couple of years.

That's why he has to get another good SP. If not then AA has completely failed. Contending teams like the Braves don't make mistakes like that.

yeah, but we might be surprised by another pitching prospect taking that next step... I agree, not a great plan.. but maybe we get lucky.

We've gotten lucky just about every year it seems. That luck has to run out some time. He will no doubt get another starter before ST. He has to.

…unless there is more to it than just luck. How many times does something have to happen before it is recognized as a skill and not just luck.

SS wasn't a top prospect last year and was coming off an injury the year before that so it's not like anybody saw last year coming.
