Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I commented on the twitter link and tagged him. He replied that the Kyle Tucker trade was proof that this is the sort of market that Cease and King have.

OK, now I see where this guy got his "information". He took the Tucker trade, decided Schwelly was the equivalent of Peredes, then worked his way down the 3 player list the Cubs gave up. The package he proposed for Cease is more valuable than the Tucker package, and Tucker is a much more valuable asset than Cease.

Like I said, it's safe to ignore this guy. He has no legit info.

Rather just sign Quintana if we're going the FA route.

But there are still plenty of other trade options who wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Jordan Montgomery being one of them.

again..there is nothing left in the FA world that moves the needle enough to go over the tax threshold again. Just save the bullets for the deadline and see how the team rebounds from last year.

for the record, that is not the approach I would have wanted the team to take, but it seems clear that is the approach they are taking. I would have loved the team get more creative with contracts and get some real difference makers.. but AA is a very risk adverse GM and it really showed this year when the Sale type deals didn't materialize.

I think the difference in the Tucker trade is that Houston received a legitimate major league position player in that deal. I don't see the Braves have anyone comparable to that, so it's little wonder that Preller would ask for guys in our top-tier of prospects, especially for King. I'm not sure on Cease given there is only one year of control and Boras is his agent. I'm in the camp that we should hang on to Baldwin and certainly not trade Schwellenbach, but just about everyone else in our minor league system should be available. I just think that from the Padres' perspective, they will want quality over quantity.

We already have an absolute max baseline for Cease and it's the Crochett trade. And quite clearly, Cease isn't close to that.

We already know what it would take to get Cease. Just look at what the Pads gave up last year and decrease it a bit.

Teams at the peak of their contention window aren't trying to win more games. They should be making plans to raise their floor.

Right now the floor for the Braves rotation is Sale goes back to being injured just like he was in October, Strider doesn't come back well from his 2nd TJ, Schwelly regresses in his 2nd year, and/or Lopez continues to have shoulder issues as a SP.

Saying "all pitchers are risky" as if the Braves rotation doesn't carry extra risk compared to other championship-level teams is sticking your head in the sand. The Braves don't have a single reliable SP on the entire roster.

AA needs another legit SP.

Agree, but Flaherty would not have been without exceptional risk. Yanks backed out last year over his back.

Yes it's a joke. Turn on ESPN. He's one of the best Edge rushers in the NFL and just demanded a trade

ah.. thanks.. yeah, I don't watch much espn if any.. haven't paid attention to football in a few years except occasional games here and there.. man, I used to know a lot about players/teams in football/NBA/MLB back in the day.. now I just don't care about NBA at all..and NFL vaguely ...

It's probablly a good thing you don't care about the NBA right now

Cut the Cease trade from last year in half since he has half the control remaining. They gave up 2 FV 50s, and used up his cheaper year of control, so to expect anything more than 1 FV 50 as the centerpiece is pure lunacy.

And that's why they still have him and King both.
