Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I'm not sure how smart it is to spend $10M-$15M on a #4/#5 SP who is clearly declining.

I think it's probably best for both sides to part ways. I'd be fine with Charlie, but i'd want someone with a little more upside like Eovaldi.

Braves signed RHP Enoli Paredes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Paredes represents an intriguing gamble for the Braves after compiling a strong 1.66 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 16/10 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings (18 appearances) last season between the Brewers and Cubs. The 29-year-old righty, who has made 55 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2020, will compete in spring training for a spot in Atlanta’s season-opening bullpen.

Cool. I watched him when he was in high A ball for the Fayetteville woodpeckers. He was a fan favorite and had some decent years for the Astros.

Yes, I know about Baldwin and I completely understand not giving him that contract with Baldwin in the wings and with Murphy already here. I just hope he spends the savings on something meaningful.

Cy you know where that savings is going lol....these mfers will be looking for scraps and projects trying to re-surge their careers...he's not going to sign anyone of any significance

I mean, i'm not expecting a Soto, Burnes, Bregman type signing. But i'd be surprised if AA didnt add at least one high priced player in FA. We have alot of needs, so i'd expect AA to add a good bit.

Of the players in the newspaper photo of the Braves winning the WS that is displayed in my office, only Ian Anderson is left.

In regards to Charlie wanting to keep playing, I really don't think we'll be involved unless he comes a steep discount later in the off-season. I feel like if he were part of the off-season plan, we would have already got him under contract before FA started.

He probably ends up in Tampa.

Ok, I did not expect his departure. Is that good enough?

I didnt either but it's not that shocking on the surface. When Snit played him like a starter, and AA probably wants Murphy starting/playing most of the games given what they traded for him. Plus 8M for a backup catcher is a hefty chunk of change.

I think it's pretty clear the TDA move was made to clear payroll for a JJ replacement, which was possible due to Baldwin being very clearly ready. I imagine if JJ didn't get hurt TDA would still be a Brave.

I just hope these money saving moves don't mean what the MLBTR writers think they mean.

What an ignorant post. I guess the Sale trade/extension and Lopez signing weren't people of significance last year.

Reports say Mets have offered $660m to Soto as an “initial” offer. I suspect Cohen is likely able and willing to go another $90m to 750m - not sure of the years but it’s probably for 13 years (approx $50m AAV).

Yankees limit is probably $650 or 700m reading the tea leaves so the Blue Jays may the only other team that is willing to go above $700m.

The Yankees losing Soto to the Mets would be absolutely humiliating. George Steinbrenner would look up with shock from his place in the afterlife.

Soto going to the Mets pissed off both Yankee fans and Nats fans. Plus by going to the Mets he is bound to turn into an albatross sooner rather than later.
