Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

I am just glad we don't have to face him 3-5 times. Now, let's see what scrub AA brings in. It's probably Social Security Morton. Third straight failure of an off-season.

Fried was one of my favorite Braves of recent vintage. Great athlete. I remember one game he was put in as a pinch-runner because the Braves were out of position players. He came barrelling around third and did a head-first slide (that wasn't really necessary) to beat the throw and score the game-winning run. There's was gnashing of teeth among the beat writers as to why he would do such a thing, but as I recall, Fried just kind of shrugged and said (and my memory is murky) something to effect that "it was about winning the game." He was rumored to be the second-fastest guy on the team behind Acuna and Snitker (in what was probably an addled statement) said he thought Fried had the ability to be a solid major league OF.

He was a joy to watch when he was on his game. 8 years is a long time and $218 MM is a lot of money. I wish him well.

AA literally got Chris Sale for Vaughn Grissom. And signed Lopez who had a sub 2 ERA. Morton would actually be what we need in the rotation: stability. But i hope he aims higher.

I'm sad to see Max go. I loved watched him pitch when he was on. That hammer curve is a thing of beauty. I wish it wasn't the Yankees but honestly there's probably only 8 teams in MLB that are gonna give these high-end FA's the deals they're looking for.

I love Max.

This departure was obvious 3 years ago.

Braves are better off spending $218m on other parts of the roster. (This is absolutely an insane contract to give someone with glaring injury risk)

Big Fried fan but we’ll be fine. Schwellenback coming out of nowhere last year really helped big time. AA is trying to get a bigger rotation piece or he would have signed Morton already.

Have a feeling AA takes on a bad contract. Something like Gray/Arenado with the cardinals kicking in a little cash. Then we flip out Arenado kicking in cash
