Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Unless something incredible just falls into our lap, I don’t see us upgrading LF outside of getting a RHH to face LHP. I think the FO is still hoping Kelenic will pan out and is going to run it back with him at least until Memorial Day.

I think if we were going to sign Kim we would’ve done it already. The only upgrades I see us making is getting another starter, another reliever (or two), and getting a RHH to platoon in LF. Maybe we get a utility infielder who has a chance to take over SS is Arcia falls on his face again. All of those moves will absolutely improve our team, even if the position player part of the puzzle isn’t sexy. I’m sure people will cry though.

If all AA does is improve around the edges folks are more than justified in criticizing the offseason.

The moves you described amount to a D grade for the offseason, and in no way are acceptable for a team at the back half of its contention window. This team has a few more real shots at a title, and punting one of those shots is unacceptable.

That wouldn’t be punting though. Getting someone like Lopez for the rotation and Scott for the pen would be big additions. I wouldn’t consider that just improving around the edges, even if they only got a platoon player for LF.

Scott and Lopez would be big additions. Not sure if AA would be the high bidder for Scott though. Lopez would be a huge addition, and is on a good contract as well. It is fair to criticize if they dont make a few more big moves given where the team is.

I think you need someone better than Kelenic if Acuna isnt going to be ready on Opening Day. Not sure whats out there on the trade market, but the current internal options leave alot to be desired if they dont add something better in the outfield.

Just admit you'll justify AA no matter what. We will lost ground this offseason, and that's on AA

AA was great until he wasn't. His ASB was a disaster followed by this crap. The only time AA really took a shot, we won a WS. He's now so conservative, he's to the right of rush Limbaugh

I agree with Encheff about the window. You can’t half a$$ it at this point. A López, Scott, and Profar offseason would do the trick and should be attainable.

The Braves are currently projected for the 2nd most wins in MLB behind the Dodgers. But, only adding a number 3 or better starting pitcher, an ace reliever, and a LHP mashing outfielder would mean that they are punting the season and AA has failed miserably.

Amazing.

Its this. Simple to me.

Damn Cy. You came strong with reply. Lmao!

We are adding to the team even by doing nothing. We got next to nothing from Acuna/Strider last year. An MVP and Cy Young contender. Sure they won't start the year with the team but the idea is to be the best team possible in October not April. So many players had down years some of them are bound to improve. We got several good pitching prospects in the high minors. There's plenty of reason to be optimistic even if they don't make any big moves.

If the added Profar and Kim a reliever, and a rotation starter that would be a whole lot.

So wouldn't say that there is nothing out there.

Profar had a hot 2 months to start the year then was the same .240 hitter he has always been. Not even a good defender he has had alternating seasons of being above average then dogs hit and guess which year is coming up. If it's a 1 year deal that's fine because there's no long term risk and we are running out of options.

Kim has no power and is a low batting average hitter coming off major shoulder surgery and probably won't be ready opening day. Really rolling the dice on a guy with limited upside. Again, only worth taking a risk like this if it's a 1 year deal.

I would be fine with a reliever. For a team that wants to win 100 games we need someone who can close games other than Iggy. Scott as a lefty seems nice as we can play matchups a bit but he has struggled in non save situations. Hoffman if he could be had at 3 years 30 million would be nice. Gives us options with Iggy only being signed for 1 more year.

I think Flaherty might be in place for us. His history means he shouldn't get an insane contract. Something like 4 years 90 million is what I expect.

I wonder if Luis Castillo is an option for us.arijers reportedly want infielders and all we got to offer them is Nacho. 2B is wide open for them so maybe they like him. Castillo has about 3 years 75 million left with an option for 2028 so he shouldn't be cheap. Probably need to add some of our top pitching prospects too. Mariners need a 1B but trading Castillo's contract might allow them to sign Alonso. I think something like Nacho/Waldrep/Hackenberg would be a competitive offer. They seem good at developing pitchers.

Trading for a #3 and signing an elite BP arm is not improving around the edges. Those are the types of moves I expect from AA on the back half of the contention window.

I’ve also read the Ms are looking for IF help and might trade Castillo. A trade for him centering on Nacho could make sense.

Agreed. I’m just saying that I don’t expect him to add an impact position player.
