Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Both things can’t be true. Bowman didn’t pull that $33 million thing out of his ass. He’s been around long enough to where someone high up would have given him that. When you subtract Profar’s money that’s still $20M. What would AA be banking that money for? The guys worth extending (except Schwellenbach) are extended. What’s he going to drop that kind of money on at the deadline? And when the demand is far greater and the supply less, is he going to give up the entire farm for it?

Four days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a good day for AA to add someone who can close games when Iglesias is inevitably injured.

Brother, I gotta give you a lot of credit for this relentless vigil…… it’s gotten to the point where I am laughing to myself before I log in wondering what you are going to say today…..

I can’t stop until the clock hits zero. Don’t have the energy to keep going until Opening Day. 138 pages and one significant acquisition.

I don't know, that's a pretty big a$$.

In your opinion, was there a realistic way to reset the luxury tax this off-season and also get a high grade? Frustrating this has to happen during a prime contention window season. But I'm hopeful because the long term success of the organization seems to be in mind.

Probably not. Ducking under the tax almost certainly requires punting at least 1 offseason. We recently saw the dodgers do that, and it paid off when they had massive offseasons immediately after resetting their penalties.

So having a bad offseason to set up having great offseasons can be good overall, but AA doesn’t get credit now for maybe being able to possibly do something big sometime in the future, maybe.

If he did it then that's fine bc if he's able to Cease and Bichette are both FA next offseason and they will both be huge needs for us.

People are just setting themselves up for disappointment with this. Unless those 2 **** the bed they will get north of 200 million. It's a stretch that AA even signs one let alone both. I think Bichette there's a decent chance but I don't think they spent all that capital on pitching to pay Cease 300 million. With them seemingly showing no interest in keeping Ozuna it would make sense if we finally got a premium offensive SS.

this offseason would be great if the team was rebuilding..

There's a reason people mock teams that win the off-season championships with big signings. Sometimes you win by standing mostly pat. We got several prospects on the cusp of the majors and two premium stars rejoining the team. Dont let the fact sone prospects didn't immediately set the league on fire think they are busts.

The only thing we really need is a good SP. we lost Fried and Morton. One will be replaced by Strider at some point but a lot could go wrong with the rotation hoping for a repeat of last year. Cease, King, or Lopez would solve all of those questions.

Who’s closing games when Iglesias goes down?

Who is getting the ball to Riggs when the starters can only go 5-6 innings every night.

Holmes, Daysbell, Pierce, Bummer, Lee, and Iggy is the makings of a pretty solid pen. Not elite by any means, but pretty solid. Also, I feel like people are sleeping on Perdomo who put up some pretty fantastic numbers the last time he was healthy. He could be really, really good this year.

Granted, there isn't much depth behind this group. I would feel much more comfortable adding another quality reliever. But it's not all as doom and gloom as you're making it out to be.

Holmes gonna have to start

I'm gonna guess they thought they had Scott locked up and then Minter signed before Scott possibly took less from LA and they got neither.

Only they didn't. If it's locked up, the player will sign. If they delay, they're looking to go somewhere else.
