Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Man, Chad Kuhl looking quite good. The sweeper was as-advertised. FB 95-96. He was throwing another breaking pitch too . . . maybe a slider? I'm officially intrigued.

I think they'll be able to piece the bullpen together just fine. I wish we could trade for Cease and put AJSS in the bullpen for the year and be a spot starter.

I watched his inning. I agree. He looks like the bullpen surprise of 2025. He popped a few 96 in there too.

Most of us knew the don't wanna block Anderson and/or Holmes was just GM talk to not look as desperate. We still need a legit SP.

What was Ian gonna figure out that he hasn't yet? New pitch..oh...toying with...oh...new velo...? The AAAA yo-yo train is nigh for the weak at heart. Me thinks it'll be busy this year.

Ian Anderson is done as a major leaguer. There’s just no upside there anymore. Appreciate him for what he did but that pitcher is long gone.

Anderson was nothing special before he got hurt. If anything the TJ surgery gave him more rope. If he'd stayed healthy he'd probably have been DFAd before now.

His stuff has always been poor. He benefited early from a weird arm slot but once the league figured that out he had nothing.

The only thing notable about his tenure as a Brave was his post season work. He came up big for us on our World Series run. Other than that, he's been pretty marginal.

Everybody that helped on the 21 team was kept around way to long it seems. Anderson, Rosario, Soler, Duvall should have all been done here after that season. If we are counting on Anderson at all this season in the rotation we are in trouble. I like Holmes but he is best suited as a bp guy and spot starter. Love AA but he dropped the ball on the offseason. Hopefully Profar has a good year or it will look even worse. Holding out hope that AA can work out something with SD before the season starts bc nobody will be trading till the AS break at that point.

Two ST games and some of you guys are throwing guys under the bus.

They may very well not make the grade (most of them), but give them more than one ST appearance before deciding.

Someone from this group will have a good season. I wish I knew which one after one ST appearance, but it is too early to be making decisions.

Anderson is 26 years old 22-13 in 52 starts and 272 IP with ERA/FIP right at 4. Even taking out his 2020 stats he had a 4.25 FIP after that. I know he was bad before going down with TJ but maybe some of that had to do with not being healthy.

The only option for Ian to be a major league pitcher is to go to the pen. Maybe he can work on developing some other pitches and come back to starting in 3-4 years. But he is most certainly not a MLB caliber SP right now. I would rather sign the ghost of Julio Teheran and run him out there than to see Ian Anderson start another game for the Braves.

I mean no one is saying Ian stinks because of yesterday... yesterday only confirmed that his minor league numbers from last year and his stat cast data prior to going down are true. He doesn't have the stuff to make it.

I find it more disappointing that the front office even considered him as a viable option, because they had to know what arsenal he was working with and knew that wouldn't play.

Like another has said, Ian got great results early based off funky release point and better fastball command.. It has been down hill since that.

I have a feeling that 5th starter spot is gonna be a black hole all the way to the deadline and then AA is gonna have to pay more then than he could have a month ago or at least the same. All it's gonna take is for Sale to go back to being the old Sale or Strider to have a set back and we are in trouble.

I am not too worried about the 5th spot.. between Elder/Holmes and the tripA train, someone will fill that spot. I am worried about depth though.. like you said, this team can't afford any injuries, not just in the rotation..
