oppression AND tyranny

The international response to Russia has been impressively coordinated and effective. Very painful to their citizens forcing it's leaders to make tough decisions.

Why do we not have anything remotely resembling that with regards to China or Canada or Australia?

Ba-dum-dum-dum 2 of these things are not like the others. 2 of these things just do not belong. Can you tell which 2 of these countries are not like the others. Or are you an idiot?

There are verying degrees to their oppression but all have brutalized their citizens human rights. You've supported every step of course.

One country committed acts of terror, one country is committing cultural genocide as well as actual genocide, 2 of the countries made strict covid restrictions that the majority of their citizens agreed with.

I wish out government would stand up to all human rights abuses...but ill compromise and say let's start with china... Time to sanction the hell out of them, stop trading with them, and removing all Chinese imports from the shelves.

Sanctions won't hurt them like Russia. They have their own version of SWIFT. And they have a lot of money invested in African countries that they are waiting to be paid out.

I agree wholly about removing Chinese imports.

Stopping trade with them is going to be very painful though in the short term. If Americans are complaining about rising prices now, then cutting off cheap Chinese goods is going to be worse.

I don't mind paying extra if it means China will be hurt or punished for what they've done. The question is how many Americans are willing to the same? Most don't understand how the game works.

Anyone know if Navalny is still in prison?

That seems kinda oppressive AND tyrannical.

Kinda.

I chopped up my Sauconys when I found out they were made in China. I run faster barefooted anyhow.

The big fuss coming out of Russia the last few days was Adidas stopping their partnership with the Russian federation.

Where will Russians go now to buy their tracksuits?

Nothing like a good old war to pull nsacpi out of retirement.

Good little Neo-Liberal.

Thanks for the laugh

How much are you willing to hurt the american economy to sanction china? Keep in mind removing Chinese imports from shelves means destroying about 90% of products on American shelves. Basically every electronic device is made in some form in China. My car, hell my Traeger grill, my computer, my D&D terrain, your restaurant takeout containers, TV, you name it so many things made in China.

The best solution to getting rid of China is to improve automation, but anytime someone mentions automation you get ye old "THEY TOOK OUR JOBS"

There's no one standing in the way of automation though. Every factory has it, every grocery store has self check registers, Amazon is building While Foods stores where you just walk out and they bill you, even McDonald's has the little self serve kiosks. We'll have self driving big rig trucks, air force fighters, infantry combat vehicles, and warships soon. It's still better for the US for those automated things to happen here instead of the far side of the world.

I have this somewhat whimsical idea that every American at birth should be endowed with a robot, to be periodically upgraded to the latest model, from which they will derive an income. Of course this can be implemented with or without an actual robot.

Granted it's hearsay, sampling, etc. but the number of people around me who grumbled about Walmart replacing cashiers with autocheckout was astonishing. People still stand around waiting several minutes for the one of 2 checkout lanes instead of one of the many open automatic checkouts. Even though this Walmart didn't shed a single job. Just repositioned those jobs.

They were probably just protesting. Should probably freeze their assets too

I thought we were supposed to applaud them, donate to their "charity" of choice, and explain that the public health benefit of their actions outweighs any concerns over gatherings of thousands of people during a pandemic?

There was never a pandemic in Russia. They came up with the vaccine and cure first.
