oppression AND tyranny

So comedians can be assaulted if someone takes offense to one of thier jokes?

I see it as the rules of civilization exist because they're easily enforced, not because they're fair or effective. Someone who cuts you off in traffic rarely suffers any consequences. Even law enforcement will normally ignore it as not worth their time. But there's nothing civilized about cutting someone off, so if Bubba in the pickup convinced nsacpi's Yankee brethren to act Roman in Rome, then his assault was a positive for society.

Chris Rock is probably my favorite comedian now that Norm is gone, and I don't care much for Will Smith. I've also committed extreme acts of violence on a couple of guys who made disrespectful comments to my wife. I don't regret them, so it's hard for me to blame Smith for what he did. People can dislike it, but his method was effective, no one is going to insult his wife where they can hear it. Her world just became more civilized.

When you walk into that building you know that you and your family is at risk of being roasted.

Your overall premise while in the real world is 100% valid.

The Oscars is not one of those settings.

The good people of Portland, Maine tip cap to their southern brethren and wish them well in their quest for healing from intergenerational trauma caused by the War of Northern Aggression.

Not Jada. Her husband just eliminated that risk for her.

IDK, comedy has a way of beating a dead horse. I doubt they are done being the heel of some sour humor. I've seen more of Jada bald on the internet in the last 24 hours than ever before.

I see your point, but someone is going to double down because of the buzz of the whole thing.

My wife had an incident when she was bullied as a 10-year old by another girl. After she told this to her father, he waited for the school bus. When the offending girl got off the bus he got in her face and told her he would beat the crap out of her if she didn't leave his daughter alone. It worked!

However...this incident (and maybe a few others like it) has created a set of expectations and other repercussions which have had a surprisingly long tail. For many people.

Nsacpi, your future FIL would have serious legal problems if he had tried that in today's world.
The dude is suis generis. The incident I described is but a small part of his oeuvre.

I did decide to put a character very much like him in my novel. I don't know if he will be pleased or not. But I'm gonna tell him he should be grateful I have immortalized him.

This tyrant forces toddlers to wear useless face diapers while he parties without one... gets mad when called on it, and fires the member of the press for asking the question
