OT: Kershaw 7 years, 215 million...

The mega market teams will make it so no one other than they can afford to play pretty soon. Yankees, Bsox, Phillies, Dodgers etc are all pricing everyone else out of the game.

Pretty much why i dont care much for baseball, can buy a championship.

30 million a year for a player that will start 30 times. Ridiculous. Trout's mouth just started to water. He's gonna be the first 40 million a year player I bet.

If he has Tommy John at any point they're screwed. I mean not screwed in the traditional sense bc they basically mint their own money but screwed in the sense that they'll be wasting 30 million dollars. That's 30 million down the toilet for the year he misses plus however much time he's ineffective regaining his form the following year.

I know Kershaw is arguably the best pitcher in MLB, but this contract is crazy. If he gets hurt, that's going to really HURT the Dodgers. Elbow ligaments can go at any time. If I was a Dodgers fan, this contract would scare me.

Injury is the biggest risk. We have seen the Dodgers burned here before in this regard: Kevin Brown and Darren Dreifort. Ironically, both pitchers' insane contracts were among the last before MLB began self-correcting its inflated pacts, which is where I think baseball is headed now (quite slowly, but inevitably).

That being said, they had to lock Kershaw up ... and there are few better players to spend $30MM on per season.

When does it stop? Hank Aaron made 2.1 million in 22 years of play. The average salary is 3.5 million per year. As long as the owners pay, the players will take the contracts. But, how far will this go?

Comes to a million bucks per start. More than many people make in their entire lifetimes. Absolutely ludicrous.

if he makes 30 starts

and pitches 110 pitches in all 30 starts

everytime he throws the ball to his catcher

he will make $9,400

But he's throwing those warm-up tosses for free: that's where your bargain resides.
