Our window for contention is quite long. Exciting time to be a Southerner . . .

THE OFFENSE

We have The Venezuelan Trout locked up in left. He is a top 5 player in the game right now.

We have 1 of 2 elite 1B in the game today locked up.

Our 2B is young, cheap, and good.

Our shortstop is young, cheap, and appears to have gotten better.

Donaldson is a stop gap until we get to 1 of the top 5 or so power bats in the minors: Austin Riley.

The CF spot is being held down by a Gold Glover until we get Pache up here, and Pache's could be Dominican Kevin Pillar or better.

Drew Waters and William Contreras are really coming along at C and corner outfield.

THE PITCHING

We have some young guys who could be really good in time.

Start with Folty.

Then you've got Fried, who looks excellent.

Gausman is solid.

Then we've got Kyle Wright, Touki Toussaint, Bryse Wilson, Luiz Gohara, Ian Anderson, et al. I think 1 or 2 of those guys will be quality major league starters.

CONCLUSION

We are Southerners.

We love the red, white, and blue. We love trickle-down economics. We appreciate Wal-Mart, KFC, Coca-Cola, Chik-Fil-A, and Hardee's.

We love college football in the fall. We love baseball in the summer. NASCAR on Sunday afternoons.

Lemonade on the back porch listening to prime Alan Jackson or Kenny Chesney. Maybe throw in a bit of Chingy, Luda, and Outkast if we want to get funky.

We work hard. We party hard.

We appreciate nature. We have dogs and cattle and admire beautiful women.

Our heros are named Chipper. John. Greg. Tom. Deion. Andruw.

We grew up going to little league practice and wagging our bat like Gary Sheffield.

And we love our Braves, and we will defend them to the very end, so help us God!!

What some don't realize: The Atlanta Braves were the first professional sports team in the South.

Then we were "America's Team" going back to the days of the Super Station.

We will eat fried chicken and paint our names on water tanks in towns smaller than an NYC neighborhood.

That's just what we do.

I can just see you typing this post out while sipping on a cold Busch Light in your camo chair, smoking a Marlboro red, and flicking your ash into your Dale Earnhardt commemorative ash tray

Not judging, by the way. You do what makes you happy.
