Ozzie Albies thread

He's a family friend. (I can finally say I know a major leaguer)

cool, I have one as well who dated my cousin when we were in high school together. His family has some awesome athletes for sure. His neice just one a championship in NCAA basketball, some of them are in the minors in baseball. Athletic family for sure.

I am hoping my son becomes one but at this time, he is like his dad in the non athletic part, writing, physics and astronomy. My daughter who is like 97% in height for her age is uncoordinated but wants to play sports eventually. My brother son is playing for a Div 1 school like his dad did and I played in the pros so there is some hope there as well.

There's nothing going on here in the first 4 games that can be fixed by minor league ball. It's simple, teams are taking advantage of his aggression. He thinks he can hit everything and anything in the zone, and that can both help and hurt you (he's pretty much Betts lite/Simmons with bat control). It's unfortunate, but the one thing that I saw as a possibility with him has happened. He's lost the strike zone.

As soon as he finds it he should be fine. It's not like Dansby in which there was (and may still be) a serious issue against sliders.

Add in 0 walks for inciarte in 21 PA and 0 for Swanson in 17 PA... up the middle, we have 0 walks in 58 PA

Small sample for sure, but Albies GO/AO is sitting at 0.56. It's nice that he can drive the ball on occasion, but I think he needs to re-think his approach a bit. I saw the same thing last year. A lot of opposite field easy fly-outs. If he's going to opposite way, it has to be "down and hard" as we used to say in the dugout.

Let's blow it up, fellas. The sample size is too real on this one.

Well, except for Inciarte. He just sucks at taking a walk.

Yeah Ozzie needs to make an adjustment in how he approaches his at bats. He needs to learn to take advantage of first pitch mistakes but lay off them if they aren't in his absolute wheelhouse. He just needs to work on pitch recognition. He has also been out in front on a lot of offspeed stuff. He obviously has fantastic bat to ball skills, but his approach definitely needs refinement. I think he will learn that as time goes on.

There's really not much you can do for the main issue Albies is having. He's shown he can take a walk before, but again, the issue is he feels like he can hit everything and anything near. It's something guys with good bat control have problems with at times. It can help you, and also hurt you. It's hurting him right now.

Since he will take walks, it's not about teaching him the strike zone and there's really absolutely nothing you can do except maybe give him a day off/temporarily drop him in the order. He's shown he'll adjust before, so it might be in a series or two that it clicks "hey! maybe I shouldn't be swinging so much!"

He is K’n at 20%, which is in line with AAA last season (20.1% over 448 PA). He should realize he can’t hit everything.
