Ozzie to 60 day IL

I know it has been discussed in a few different threads but thought it should have its own by now.

Ozzie had surgery today on his foot. Expected to be out until at least mid-August.

Do we make a trade? Stick with Arcia?

With him being back a few weeks after the deadline, perhaps sticking with Arcia and signing Gordon wouldn't be a terrible move. We could use another lefty in the lineup

This roster is long overdue for a legitimate utility player that can play OF and IF. Arcia is so bad in the OF defensively, he shouldn’t be the answer.

I’m okay with Arcia as a short term solution for Albies at 2B. But I expect AA to look at 2B/OF types that ideally hit LH. This provides more flexibility for platooning with Arcia and Duvall.

I’d be shocked if he’s not out for the year.
That’s a worse case scenario.
I’d expect the Braves to be extra cautious given his age.
I saw just let Arica play it out, maybe he gets lucky and keeps hitting above his career stats

It’s a 6-8 week injury. He’s 25.

Old pal Brandon Drury would be a nice option, except that he hits righty. Ditto Whit Merrifield, as a buy-low bounce-back bet.

Dream scenario would be Ketel Marte—2B for now, cOF for later. Adding another switch-hitter would be nice, and that Marte–Harris–Acuña of would be lit.

Out for the year, in a projected 6-8 week injury? That would be umm something extreme. We need to make a trade regardless though.

He is not out for the year with that injury. Period

Arcia is just fine as a short term fill in. They won’t add to the bench until the deadline. No need to panic and make a dumb trade for someone that will be no better than the options we already have. Arcia can hit with some power and is above average in the infield.

The Braves had one. His name was Adrianza. And they inexplicably parted ways with him.

Where are you seeing 6-8 week?
The Braves themselves put him on the 60 day IL and doctors that acually do the procedure he had done are saying it’s a 3 month injury.
Yes there is a possibility he comes back at the end of Sept/early Oct but like I said I’d be shocked if they rush him.
I hope im wrong and I hope y’all tell me how wrong I am and he comes back in 8 weeks.
I had a Lisfranc fracture when I was playing football in college and it took 3 months before I was cleared to resume training/practicing.
Maybe things have changed that much in 20 years but according to the link it’s still a 3 month process.

I think aa would like to get a guy like merrifield from the royals. But will he pay the likely premium for doing the deal now and ppl thinking we are desperate for a deal?

I’m thinking we play Arcia. They seem to love him.
