Padres fire black

There is something to be said for acquiring as much talent as possible and letting manager figure it out. If they are offering below market deals to obtain Myers, Upton, Kimbrel; then I can understand it. However, to me they offered market rate or above market rate deals for each of those 3 players. So, without getting absolute steals, it makes sense to have some semblance of team building in mind. They have had some injuries like Alonso and Myers and that is part of their struggles. I still don't know why they didn't get a centerfielder instead of Myers/Upton/Kemp.

The real issue is the pitching has fallen off the map for some reason. You can't have your top 3 starters pitch in SD and have ERAs in the 4s.

They are talented though and could be a minor tweak (or health) away from a pretty good run. They do get to play Colorado and Arizona 40 times)

The starting pitchers are giving up crazy amount of homers. Cashner, Kennedy and Shields homerun rates are way up this year. Did they pull the fences 30 feet this year? Plus Ross decided to become Wild Thing.

Please ttell me the position by position difference between the 09 Padres and h 15 Braves.

An argument could be made Black had more to work with.

Wasn't Black's calling card as a pitching coach prior to managing the Pads?

AJ vs. Hundley

Freeman vs. Gonzalez

Eckstein vs. Peterson

Cabrera vs. Simmons

Kouzmannoff vs. Uribe

Headley vs. Gomes/KJ

Gwynn vs. Maybin

Venable vs. Markakis

The starting rotation of the Pdres was Kevin Gorreia, Chad Gaudin, Josh Geer, Jake Peavy (13 starts), Chris Young, Tim Stauffer. 3 of the 6 had ERAs in the 5s.

I don't think anyone can argue with a straight face that the 2009 Padres had similar talent.

a pitching coach for a manager and 3 of the 5 starters have ERA's in the 5's !

Braves have a clear cut advantage at 2B ,SS and CF (though Mayben was a CF for 09 Pads)
Pads have clear advantage at 1B, LF and RF. Arguably C

Pretty sure posters will come back to argue the value of Markakis, Gomes and AJ

Maybe wasn't a centerfielder for the 09 Padres.

You don't really believe any pitching coach could do anything with that trash rotation, do you?

The Pads did not have a clear advantage at LF, RF, and certainly not catcher. THey will argue that because your point is not valid. The Padres had a staff ace by the name of Kevin Correia, do I even need to say anything more?

That is correct -not until '11

Your willingness to randomly hand out free passes is amazing

As bad as I read Gomes,Markakus and AJ I would have thought it a given :)

I said an argument could be made. I didn't say it was valid

Actually Correia had a pretty nice year
General consensus had until injured Jake Peavy the ace.
Never thought it this way but outside of Shelby Miller, how much better is Braves rotation?
Would you give their bullpen and advantage?

Again, I really don't see where those that bash FG have a legit claim that Black would be an upgrade.
At least not according to his track record
