Payroll

Has a pretty good break down of our current payroll after the trade. We sit somewhere in the neighborhood of $82mil committed to 2016

My question is do we continue to tear down? I think you have to at this point. Teheran will not still be around when the braves are finally in contention and freeman will be expensive.

Teheran makes close to $3.5 mil next year. Freeman makes close to $12.5 mil.....if you take both of them off the books you free up close to $16m THIS year

Next year that saves you about $6.5 mil on teheran and $20.5 mil on Freeman. Yes his salary jumps. So now you have freed up almost $27 mil in addition to what you already have for 2017.

Reflecting what others have said, the lack of a real need market for a first baseman anywhere in baseball means the Braves keep Freeman. No value to be had by trading him, and he is the face of the franchise right now. Dealing him would crush the fragile fan support moving into that big new building; they need to have a face to build the 2017 campaign around.

of course there is value in trading him.

the rest of what you wrote is funny though

cause the fan base has been crushed for no real good reason and we have been making moves that aren't needed if we were really trying to compete in 2017

This. We are the Marlins now..

Probably not. I didn't have time to do all the math. So that leaves us in the $72m area before Arab?

Yeah, we're about 72 million right now. If we trade Maybin and Julio as a I suspect we will that would put us around $60M. So we'd have about $40-$50 million to spend depending on where the payroll sits between 100 and 110 Million before arbitration. Shelby's the only big arbitration salary jump. So we'll have some money to spend this offseason.

I keep seeing people talking about freeing up money to spend

What are we going to buy? The good players we have already traded away?
Or we are we just going to get ****ty players with that money and waste it in even worse ways?

Is this a legit question or whining?

If it's a legit question I don't know where we plan on spending the money. The offseason just started.

I think it's a very legit question. This year is a very strong FA class, and next year will have a very poor class. Why save money to spend on a very weak class?

Believe it or not but there is a small group of people in the Braves FO that have thought about what they are doing...As fans we have no idea what is in store or what the plan is...Could they be clearing payroll to go after a few people this offseason on a deal that makes less this year but jumps up next year? Its possible....Lets wait and see what happens

It does make 0 sense why we have money available and may have more by trading a couple of guys off if we aren't gonna spend it on somebody big. If they do sign a big time starter then we really have a lot of pitching we can trade.

If we sign a big time starter who are the pitchers we can trade that we would not otherwise be able to.

My guess is that the stadium costs aren't as initially planned. Ownership needs to fork over more money for the new building. With all this supposed budget available I can see the Braves being well under 100 million in salary and closer to 80.

McGuirk says payroll will take major jump in 2017.

ABC: Can we expect to see a top 10 payroll team?
TM: I think that’s where we want to be. I think we would expect ourselves to be. The proof is in the pudding. We have to have all of this coalesce and work. Our confidence level is so high that it’s as close to being in our plans as we can get it right now as far as our operating plan and how everything we are doing.
ABC: When can we expect to see the Braves in the top 10 in terms of payroll?
TM: I won’t give you a timetable, but you will start seeing major jumps 1/1/17.
