Pedro, Pedro, Pedro!

It's OVER 5,000!
@Braves
Roster move: #Braves purchase the contract of INF Pedro Ciriaco (#13) from @GwinnettBraves and option LHP Ian Thomas to Gwinnett.

My take: They obviously picked him because he'd made the team out of ST, then had to be sent down after the Kimbrel/Upton trade.

This move reassures me that the club is serious about fielding a competitive team. I was beginning to have doubts.

Disappointing. I wonder if this is a sign of Fredi's increased influence on roster moves. The corresponding move was Minor to the 60-day, so they ended up having flexibility to choose a non-roster player. Based on some of Hart's comments on Minor, it feels like the Braves and Minor aren't on the same page. They may have wanted him to get his shoulder scoped some time ago and he's resisting, for instance.

Hopefully this isn't just Fredi trying to make amends for telling Ciriaco he made the team and then immediately sending him to AAA.

Gosselin + Ciriaco + Callaspo = Redundant

My guess is that had a lot to do with it given Pedro had a .234 average and .539 OPS with Gwinnett.

Would have rather seen Cunningham, or just kept Ian Thomas up, to be honest. I suppose Cunningham won't see Atlanta until Eric Young Jr is dumped.

MLBTR also reporting that the Braves have released Matt Capps.

Guess we don't get to fli.... oh wait, some people don't think that quip is funny anymore.

Man, you are going to be sooooooo surprised by Young's long-term extension.

CJ's broken hand has a lot more to do with it.

Even still, it's pretty weird: the Braves already have a back up 3B on the roster in Gosselin. And Peterson could probably play there too (not to mention KJ and Callaspo).

Sunny side: I guess Ciriaco will be an adequate late-inning defensive replacement, provided he is actually used in that capacity.

There is no doubt that Peterson, KJ, Callaspo and Gosselin can all play third. They're actually all much better there than Chris Johnson too. To sum it up, you had it right the first post with your redundant point IMO.

Bottom line: We don't need both Gosselin and Ciriaco on the team. If they prefer Ciriaco then send Gosselin down and call someone else up.
