Personal Updates Thread

Its really crazy that its basically the same names from 6-7+ years ago.

Forums like this are a dying breed.

Social media makes it easier for newer people to just express their opinions on anything.

This is a niche specialized forum, which there aren't too many of anymore. I may get one or two new signups every few months. But we haven't had a new poster come in and stay consistently as a new poster in a few years.

I cannot believe the same names are posting on here....what has it been like 7-8 years? Good to see the same names I remember still around.

I am way more mature than back then LOL. My kids are getting old as **** (12) and all I do is work, coach basketball, and watch my daughter cheer.

Great to see you here. Have thought of you often in terms of WWGS (Whait Would Gilesfan Say) when the baseball issues of the day arise. Kids are great. Mine are grown, but I remember the process can be all-consuming especially with all the activities available to kids now and the driving that is usually involved. Sounds like things are going well and I hope that continues.

My man! Hope you are doing well

Its crazy how baseball has turned into such an analytical world. I had some heated arguments 10 years ago lol

I'm doing well. I'm lurching toward semi-retirement working in a world of government and, by extension, politics that has become increasingly uncomfortable and often incomprehensible given my coming-of-age in a much more consensus-driven era. Still following the Braves but not as ardently as I did in the past. I stop in here to catch up on what the true experts have to say.

My daughter made the middle school cheer team so its been fun to watch the football games. But, now she cheers for basketball and my son made the middle school basketball team as a 7th grader. He ended up getting into the game last night (2nd game of the season) so that was really exciting. Didnt get any shots up so we need to discuss how you gotta throw them up when you get put in lol.

Got one boy in 6th, and one in 4th. Both play basketball, football and basketball

Amazing to watch them get better from year to year. I got one that’s a worker, loves practice. The younger is more athletically gifted but doesn’t love to put in the work. Pretty different dynamic. Both catchers but play other spots

Yeah, my son works extremely hard. He is always wanting to practice and plays on a travel team in addition to middle so sometimes he goes from one practice to another. Then he told me he wants to get up early and get shots up at the gym before school so I guess I gotta start getting up early .

My wife’s closest friend lost her 21 year old yesterday after an accident. Get up and go play if they want. You just can’t take tomorrow for granted

Make the most of every day folks

I made the decision less than a month ago to go back to school (well technically not go back, since I'm going for the first time).

So as of the beginning of this week, I became a "mature Freshmen" at the cool age of 34. Had to rush in all the enrollment, registration, advisement all in a week. Had to take placement tests in which I had no study material nor time ot study as they only had certain availabilities to even do testing during the holiday break. Got everything signed up at the last minute and started taking my first few classes this past week.

Gonna be a breeze the next 4 or so years. Planned route is to do a year or two here at Georgia Southern Savannah Campus, then transfer to Georgia Tech to finish the Comp Science degree with cybersecurity. Will still be working full-time to pay for school to avoid student loans.

However, I'm most excited about being indoctrinated by liberal professors while I'm receiving my higher education. Maybe they'll radicalize me.

I'm surprised they let you in, did you have to lie about being Asian so you could get past quota?

Congrats man, hope it works out for you. Cybersecurity is a smart place to get involved.

Best of luck, friend. A lot of people don’t have the courage to do a career pivot in their 30’s, but your plan makes a lot of sense.

We’ll need these new technical abilities of yours to ensure the future stability of this site. As such, we expect our monthly dues will be increased to fund this new endeavor.

GA Tech is I believe the top cybersecurity program in all of the country, ahead of MIT, UWash. They do a lot of work with the DoD.

It's the hottest industry with the most demand for the next decade. Plus we know the Pentagon had an unlimited budget off the books, I look forward to counter hacking China, North Korea, and Russia.

He went to Ga Tech for the chicks.

Picked up a long haired dachshund puppy. I have a golden retriever female about 5 years old, but this puppy has taken everyone by storm. After kind of a sad December he's been a real ray of sunshine.

Congrats man - marriage is a hit or miss thing but when you hit it’s amazing. I’m speaking as someone who has experienced both.

God bless.

What was your first marriage/divorce like? I asked as someone with a rampant history of divorce down both sides of my immediate and extended families:)
