Pete Rose

Ty Cobb is the most worse piece of sh it in Baseball. He hated blacks so much I cannot even type what he did and said.

And you think he is a Hall of Fame material? He make Jim Crow the advocate of blacks on how racist Cobb was.

the counter to that is he's profiting moreso on his quest for reinstatement then just about any HOF has off their HOF status.

I agree with this.

But Ty Cobb should be stripped of his HOF because of his beliefs and kept would have killed baseball. It would have turned into Golf or Crickett (in white countries).

Thing is, if he were just simply betting too much in general, like at a casino, on basketball, whatever, this wouldn't be an issue. It's the fact that it was on baseball while he was playing baseball.

Yeah, I get it. But anyone with a problem would face the same issue. It's like saying plenty of people smoke crack in the alley behind the bridge, but Jimmy did it in the house! Well, if someone offered Jimmy some great crack while he was in the house and only would give it to him there, of course he smoked crack in the house!

The point is that 25+ years of torment far outweigh the crime here, in my opinion. It's time to let it go and give the guy a couple years to celebrate the good part of his life. Baseball has basically forced him to relive the worst period of his life for 25+ years. Enough is enough.

I don't disagree with you overall.

I think Rose did the tormenting to himself. He lied about it for so long and that is on him. If he had admitted to it at first and owned up to it then things likely would have ended up differently. And even if he still remained on the banned list it wouldn't have been as 'tormenting'.

The thing is he knew what would happen if he got caught. I think him being inducted via the veterans comittie after he's dead for his playing career is fine. But he shouldn't have his day in the sun.

I disagree. Not necessarily with the details, but definitely with your conclusion.

Really?

Ty Cobb should be thrown out if that is the case unless you advocate being a RACIST?

I don't know enough about Ty Cobb to know all of his faults. (and I bet most people, not just players were racist at this time), but I'm talking about the integrity of the game.

Baseball has about as much integrity as marriage has sanctity.

Pete Rose agreed to the lifetime ban. And since he agreed to it, why should he be able to get the ban lifted at a later date?

He also bet on games that didn't involve his team as well.

Maybe. But America as a whole is very forgiving. If he had owned up to it and was truly sorry (or came off that way) then the public perception would of been different imo. Look at the way Pettite is viewed in regards to his steroid usage compared to Clemens, Arod, etc. It's not the same situation but Pettite owned up to it quickly and it's largely forgotten when compared to the others who have constantly lied about it and made specticals of the situation.

I don't think he should be reinstated; however, he should definitely be in the HOF. He was a great baseball player, the Hall is something that is supposed to have the greaest baseball players. For the sake of the sport and for the fans, he should be in the hall and his accomplishments within the sport should be displayed. In terms of him being associated with baseball, allowed to manage, etc... he should not be allowed to IMO.

I think this is it in a nutshell. I have never sensed that Rose has an ounce of contrition for what he did. It's like he's a psychotic at a level. It's not him; it's everyone else. When Joe Jackson is re-instated, Rose can come along with him. There's more dispute over the actions for which Jackson was suspended for life (and then some) than there is for Rose's infractions.

Pete Rose the ballplayer should be in the Hall of Fame for his amazing careere and achievements.

Pete Rose the degenerate gambler should never work in Baseball again.

This is not a contradiction. Why do people have such a hard time getting this. The HOF is a museum, not a church.

Pete Rose did not kill anyone, so it's ridiculous to imply that what he did is so much worse than any other athletic transgression we've been witnessed to or have heard of. He paid a big price for what he did....all the way around. It's wrong to keep punishing someone for absolutely no reason other than..."just because". Pete Rose is a HOFer...we all know it. It's time to end the holier than thou approach that MLB and fans have taken over the years.

Why does it always come down to taking away someone's work or their ability to make a living? I don't get it. We want people to work, don't we? What is enough punishment?

LMAO!!

You would drive over a black person in a minute and drive a few feet, put it in reverse and drive over him/her again, even me.

Of course you would defend a racist piece of crap. Put it this way, they said he was the worse of the worse and that is saying something.

Pete Rose accomplishments are HOF material, Top 10 easily, but him lying and defending his position is what makes me shake my head. Egotism is a problem with him and after what, 25 years he gets it. I bet if he went to Comm and said I did it and I knew I shouldn't have, he would have elected but no, that crappy gambler attitude of I bet I can win it out was too much.

Honestly, like some said, I would put him in after the last speck of dirt was put on his casket because like those said, he would take the money he will get from it and go to the nearest casino, thus make a mockery out of baseball. Baseball do not want people like that and they cannot tell him he can't use his HOF money to not gamble.

What they should do is have a Hall of Shame, players who stats are so good for HOF but their character or cheating was despicable.

#1 Cobb

#2 Aroids

#3 Bonds

#4 McGuire

Despicable cheaters or people, in Bonds case BOTH.
