I actually see a path for Schwelly to become a TOR pitcher.. especially with his control. But before I get into that.. any stat nerd needs to go look at the pitch info on Sale.. that is pure porn.. I didn't realize he was that good this year... I mean the numbers say.. but how do hitters actually hit that guy.

SS has thrown 6 pitches over 100 times this year.. that means he is literally a six pitch pitcher at any given time. Now he has had many games that he doesn't throw all six and other games where he, for instance, favors his sinker over his split finger.
His 4seamer is not particularly great, but he mixes it with a cutter and a sinker at times.. or like last night more splitters (which is what he uses as his Change up I assume)
both his 4 seam and sinker sit at 95-97 mph.. his cutter sits around 92-93 and is a pretty good pitch (even though it seems to get hit, but has one of the lowest hardhit% of his mix)
His slider is actually really good.. more of a downer.. but it is late break and a great pitch. it is a true whiff pitch.
He also flashes a curve.. not sure if he is working on that as he is starting to use it more.. it is not a great pitch and wonder if they will tinker with him using it less or continue to develop it.
All that said, he is still young (24) and developing all these pitches as well as learning what mixes well. The other things I like about him are what stats don't tell us.. he doesn't seem to get all Folty out there when bad luck or error behind him happen.. he buckles down and executes.
As I have said, he is my favorite pitcher to watch right now and he has done nothing to change that.
