Expects Yuge Games
I put much more weight on regular season data (both major and minor league), but it is still fun to look at what players have done in spring training. For the pitchers, I like to look at the strikeout and walk numbers. They are the things a pitcher has most control over and are the best predictors of future performance.
Teheran 3 17
Wood 2 16 "ace" like numbers for Teheran and Wood
Hale 5 9
Garcia 5 10 ok numbers for Hale and Garcia. I think we could contend with one of them in the rotation, but not two. Hopefully, both will be surplus when Minor, Santana and Floyd return.
Buchter 5 11 (1 9 in his last five games) the numbers from the last five games are really very good
Thomas 5 11 ok but he hasn't come on in recent games the way Buchter has
Severino 4 6
Gearrin 2 9 his spring era is bad, but I think that is misleading
Varvaro 4 7
Simmons 1 6 I think he's going to be a big time player for us in a year or so. Maybe later this year
Harper 1 5 small sample to be sure, but an under the radar low draft pick guy who has done nothing but perform climbing up the minor league ladder
Schlosser 5 13 has been a pleasant surprise this spring
Graham 2 2 hard to say where he is given the rust and possible residual effects of his shoulder injury
Walden 2 5
Carpenter 1 6
Kimbrel 3 7 Our big 3 righties are about where they need to be in spring training
Avilan 3 3 continues to outperform his peripherals. Will it catch up to him someday?
Lamm, Jaime, Obispo, Vasquez have all walked a lot of hitters this spring, effectively scuttling their chances
