Folty and Newc are neck and neck legit TOR starters, maybe NOT this year but soon and Soroka (brains), Gohara (Sabathia lite just barely in weight) right behind, with Fried that is Neagle/Avery type. Let's just back them and not create any who is better and stuff. Folty is clear 1a but Newc is barely behind him as a 1b, Gohara has the best stuff between the two in what he brings. So lets quit fighting. I like Newc, I love Folty and I love Gohara and Soroka in what they bring.


IF they can keep up the consistency and these two take these last two games they pitch to better hitting teams, it can go a long way.

I don’t believe it yet. I think both will flash great but they will have bad games. I need to see the walk rate down to consider long term tor status
 
Folty is not quite at ace level yet, imo, but nights like last night are extremely encouraging. 2.22 ERA on the year after 12 starts. I suspect he'll finish with a sub 3.00 ERA by year's end with a WAR in the 4-5 range. That's a very good year and perhaps the beginning of a peak with some Ace level seasons.
 
With Folty it's about consistency and going deep into games. He's been consistent all year and these last two games he's gone 7+. Good to see.

I'd like to see him be composed when the ish hits the fan. Competitive is one thing, but letting a call or error blow up your mentality is a concern. Still, last night was beautiful.
 
The encouraging thing with Folty is that he’s only really had one bad start, and that was his six-run outing against the Giants. Aside from that game, his ERA is sitting around 1.50. His walks have to improve, and they have, but he’s been near Ace level good. He’s also striking people out at a high rate.

With Newk, his improvements have come so quickly and he’s barely giving up hard contact. He’s really learning how to pitch to contact.

Guys, we are so blessed.
 
Cy I agree somewhat, but to not jinx, I said could, not they are now. They still have a little growing up to do, but it is encouraging. All 4 of those pitchers mentioned have the ability to "bring it" the fifth is like those I mentioned. It is up to them. It reminds me of the early 90's when our pitchers started growing up against TOP NOTCH teams.

That is all I am saying.
 
I want to say, there is an article on ESPN about Folty and Snit I think said there is competition among the starters.......think about what we had back then, did they not compete against each other? This is what you want.

of course...and they are friends...they sit together in the dugout...and Newcomb gave Folty a big hug after last night's game...most of his teammates just gave him a high five and a pat...but he got hugs from Suzuki, Newcomb, Flowers and both Freemans

I wonder if Smoltz, Glavine, Maddox, Avery, Millwood, Neagle had that going on. They were all great of course. Competition of "keep up or exceed the Joneses" is great for our team.

this Foltynewicz has 0.56 ERA in past 5 starts with 37 strikeouts and 2 earned runs allowed in 32 innings

I think he's always going to show frustration. That's the kind of guy he is. This year though, he's been able to mentally push through it (so far), even if he physically looks bothered.

Agree. But to wit, this Folty excited me. The typical -this-is-where-he-implodes guy was Lucas Sims-esque at times. Ewww. I like this Folty.

in that Giants game, you saw him become physically frustrated out on the mound to the point where he was just throwing the ball...our coaching staff should have gotten him out of the game as soon as that happened. in this last game, he had the opportunity to do that. once we got the lead and he had been sitting on the mound, he came out and immediately walked the first batter...not a hernandez fan by any stretch, but he had a great mound visit that inning. got the ground ball force out at 2b, pick off at 1b, then got out of the inning..

Folty did a great job of managing his emotions there....if he can harness those emotions and put that into his pitching, we will get more performances like we saw last night and he will quickly become one of the top pitchers in baseball
