Placeholders at Second and Short

They may be unknowns to people who don't pay attention, but even casual fans know we're building for the future and want to start seeing the young hyped guys.

Maybe. But someone has to be the adult.

Starting Albies and Swanson next year on the ML club is complete mismanagement of cost control not to mention the developmental process. Neither have shown that they are ready for a full time ML gig. Both are close. But you can't justify taking the chance of rushing them AND starting their ML clocks (control and cost) when the rest of the team is an even bigger question mark.

Agreed 100%.

I would have been fine opening the season with Swanson/Albies, but both are clearly not ready. A big league call up for both in June makes the most sense for everybody involved.

I agree, assuming the new CBA allows players to be left in the minors for a few weeks to gain the extra control.

If the new CBA requires them to be left down for 3+ months, then suddenly the calculus changes quite a bit.

Pedro Ciriaco is looking for work!

Swanson will be 23 next spring. What he needs is an offseason of rest and relaxation. Last year, he was still working his way back from his beaning injury and lack of ABs. He's already topped 450 PAs this year and will have 500 at year's end and a likely playoff season as well.

There will be plenty of veterans around him to keep him from feeling the pressure of carrying a team. Bat him sixth or seventh and let Jace handle second.

I mentioned I would focus on a trade for Kyle Seager, who is signed for $13 mil a year until 2021.

Inciarte
Peterson
Freeman
Kemp
Kyle Seager
Swanson
Catcher (I'm OK with Flowers/Recker)
Mallex

3+ months only means something if the team is competing. You could leave them down and still bring them up at any time as needed and not get the service time advantage IF the team really looks legit (it won't).

Right, but unfortunately I don't think the Braves are making decisions based solely upon winning long term (hence the Kemp acquisition).

My guess is that Swanson and Albies are with the club on opening day because then the FO can say, "See, this is what we were waiting for, 2017!".

What makes you think the M's are even remotely considering moving Seager?

I'd like to see them both play pretty much every day with the big club in September. See just how close to ready they are, and make the decision on where they start 2017 based on that performance. That would require some tough decisions on the 40 man roster though.

You are probably right but it's a horrendous approach for the best long term health of the franchise.

I'm not buying that he's just tired.

He needs to stay down until he masters AA. and AAA. unclear why he would help mlb club now.

Not really. It's unlikely to hurt their development in reality, and next year really is a big year for club revenues and thus payroll.

I get all the arguments against it and agree with them for the most part, but it's not like it would be some disastrous move.

no one is going to go to the park to see a kid hit .210.

there are plenty of reasons for people to go out next year without throwing a kid who isn't ready into the mix. People will go early for the park. If the guys start hitting early they can always bring them up later, which would be a secondary stream of interest after some of the new park bounce fades.

Just is no reason to promote them early other than wish fulfillment.

Love ya man, but I don't see any way we land Seager without backing up the truck. If we don't go after Desmond as a 3B (or Turner if looking for pop), I'd just wait until next winter and see what Moustakas might cost. Give an Adonis/Ruiz platoon a look next year, and if it doesn't work out, a 2018 lineup of...

Inciarte, Swanson, Freeman, Kemp, Moustakas, Flowers/Recker (or Castro), Albies, SP, Mallex would be awfully exciting and wouldn't cost any prospects.

Catcher (I'm OK with Flowers/Recker)

Are you really? I'm not being sarcastic; it's a serious question. Recker certainly LOOKS good so far, but SSS and all that. I really enjoy watching the guy, and he's one of those players that's genuinely fun to root for -- like Prado. Given that Ramos is unlikely, if Recker can sustain any of this, I like him better than most of the other Castro-esque options I hear thrown around. That SSS ghost keeps haunting me, though. Thoughts?

Why not? Remember, the Braves HAVE to spend to meet their agreed-upon minimum, and that kind of signing would certainly bring some people out to the southern Chattanooga suburbs to see the new stadium. I don't honestly any other spends that are going to make a brand splash.

He's had almost 600 major league at bats (from 2011 to 2016). That's the sample that's probably more reliable in terms of predictive value.
