Right now, Gattis is 2-5 in the series with a double and two walks, so it's a bit beyond me how you take his bat out of the lineup right now.
Both suck.
Even with the defense I think Gattis needs to be starting in LF. We are talking about replacing Gattis and his 2 hits 2 walks in 9 plate apperances for BJ who would probably be 0-9 in those plate appearances. Maybe a 1-9 if we were lucky. Now if we got more than a 1 run lead I would be putting BJ back in center and Heyward in right to solidify the defense. The difference between Uggla and EJ is really only defense and the fact that if Uggla gets a hit it has a much better chance of going for a homer. If we have to have a crappy offensive 2B atleast take the better defensive one. I bet Uggla would have screwed up one of the key double plays last night if he was in the game.
I agree with you regarding Gattis versus BJ Upton, but I don't necessarily think Johnson is much of a defensive improvement at 2B over Uggla; hell, he's already booted a key ball in this series.
Gattis has to be in the line-up. Fredi rolled the dice on Johnson over Uggla thinking Johnson brought a couple of things at the margins that would help. Fredi was probably wrong, but again, if Uggla wasn't having whatever problems he's been having Fredi could have left the dice in his pocket. For all any of us know, there may be something seriously wrong with Uggla's vision.
Didn't Mac have some problems after his LASIK? It was never this horrible, but I remember someone having issues with it.
I have had LASIK, thats a ridiculous excuse.
Some of you are so funny. If Uggla had been on the roster and starting and was 0-fer with 5 K's you would be saying at least EJ gives us a chance at a productive out...he should be in there. Both suck. Uggla had plenty of opportunity to claim his spot but EJ did just enough good things late to get the nod. Batting 8th in the lineup, with speed and a chance to be a situational hitter isn't the end of the world for a weak hitting middle infielder. We don't need him to be a hero.

And that doesn't even get into debating how you handle the number 8 hitter with the pitcher on deck.
There hasn't been much discussion of what Fredi SHOULD have done in the seventh. Imo, the optimal course would have been to let Simmons hit away. Then depending on the situation, consider having EJ bunt.
I'd argue that CJ was our offensive MVP so far, although Gattis has been solid.
EJ is 0-7 with 4 Ks. The number of hits isn't the thing. Justin is 0-7 but has made some solid contact. 7 ABs is a tiny sample, but EJ just looks hopeless at the plate.
Yeah, he looks like Uggla.
