possible Heyward long term deal....

The broken jaw and appendix removal likely prevented Heyward from getting a baseball related injury last year. It's pretty easy not to get injured when you aren't on the field. You can't pull a hammy while you are sitting on the bench with your mouth wired shut.

Heyward has been injury prone his entire professional career. That fact is indisputable.

In four seasons in the bigs, Jason has missed 116 games out of a possible 648. If that doesn't scream injury issues what does then?

last year actually showed Heyward is less injury prone IMO. He didn't have baseball injuries and most years he has. If he stays on the field this year his marketability goes up some more. I think the lack of a long term deal is Heyward's camp betting on this. If his value goes up we'll have to pay big money to keep him. And the Freeman deal shows we'll try.

The last 2 years Heyward hasn't had any baseball injuries. It's a good sign.

Thats not true.

He hasnt had any baseball related injuries for 2+ years, and that is a good sign.

But sure, injury prone my ass.

Take out last year, what is it.

Last year was flukish injuries especially getting hit in the face by a pitch which is as unlucky as it gets.

Not to mention how many players play 162 games in a season anyway? He's had 4 seasons in the majors, a slight injury in 10 from sliding, his shoudler in 11, pretty much healthy in 12 and fluke injuries in 13.

Is Freeman injury prone? He's been on the DL each of the last 2 years? I could go on, with a number of players but in reality Jason has had one bad injury year. And health is a concern with him, as it is with any 6'6 man child of a baseball player.

No one does, Prince is the most durable, along with Cano.

Even still, in a long, grueling season you need some days-off to rest, and get mentally right if you hit in a slump, or whatever it may be.

I dont think he's injury prone, he's had some bad luck but as stated above, the last 2 years, none of that is baseball-related. No one can stay healthy every year.

2012 he played 150+

So he's had 1 year missing games from injury on him and that makes him injury prone now?

I don't think you understand the concept of injury prone. When you constantly get injured (even in flukey ways) you are indeed prone to injury. The is the nature of injury prone. Call it bad luck if you wish, but he has missed significant time due to injury dating back to his minor league days. Coming up in the minors, staying healthy was arguably his biggest knock that scouts had on him. Even his rookie yr he missed nearly an entire month.

Better be careful. You say anything remotely close to negative, especially about Jason Heyward and you are heading to the guillotine.

I agree 100 percent with you though.

Lol revisionist history. The story on Heyward as it was on anyone of his ability (Griffey, Harper, etc.) was the only thing that could derail him is injuries. Heyward's 3 full years in the minors he was hurt literally 1 year. 2009, in 2007 and 2008 he played 120+ games. Which incase you didn't know, is normal for a minor leaguer.

Dude reread what you said, read what they said, not the same thing you said "Coming up in the minors, staying healthy was arguably his biggest knock that scouts had on him." Which basically means you're saying the one year he missed any real time, his only flaw was that he missed some time. Basically what both of those reports said is what I said, only injuries can derail him. His skillset is completel otherwise. And you ignored the last part of the minor league ball link "though he's avoided any surgeries or long-term DL trips" One who is injury proned would miss a ton of games I would think.

Though kind of amusing, that article talks about Stanton's health, and he's been more of the posterchild for injury than Heyward, battled nagging injuries in 11 and long DL trips in 12 and 13 unlike getting hit in the face with a baseball or appendicitis, Stanton has had injuries ton his back, knees, ankle, wrist, thigh, and shoulder. Only serious long term baseball concern injuries Jason has had is his Shoulder and to a lesser degree his thumb.

Different point now, don't want to make a second post

Baseball prospectus has Heyward's game missed time at 100 games, odds are at least a handful of them would have been offdays anyway but I digress, 49 of them game from his appendix surgery and his busted jaw. Ignoring the fluke injuries, Jason has missed approx 50 games over 4 years. Care to explain how 50 games in 4 years would make him injury prone? Or is it his fault he needed his appendix removed and got hit in the face by a baseball?

Having to have an appendectomy is not an injury.

If he weren't injury prone, that would have never happened to his appendix.
#logic
He also would not have been hit in the face with a baseball if he weren't injury prone.

Seriously, I don't even know why people respond to some of the crap people here say, especially one poster in particular. The guy who's a worse Braves fan than gilesfan, and he's a nats fan.

How many games to INJURY?
Note: appendectomy is not an injury (as someone has already stated).
Getting hit in the face and breaking his jaw breaking is technically an injury. But that has absolutely nothing to do with being injury prone. 0%.
