Post ASG Predictions Anyone?

I say we pick up Moose and a bullpen arm. We will be right in the thick of things for the division.

Soria and Avilan are brought in to help the pen immensely (Moylan finally cut loose and Phillips sent back down). Both are controllable through next year, so they wouldn't be pure rentals. Moose is brought in as much for his experience as anything else (Flaherty finally released) as long as the cost isn't prohibitive.

Really wouldn't be surprised if AA's still keeping the back channel conversations with Toronto open in the event they decide to move Donaldson for significantly less than they'd hoped for. Would think he'd certainly be open to re-signing (or even signing a reasonable extension) at this point if Alex signals the interest in him is serious by trading for him while he's still on the shelf. Let him spend the next 6 weeks taking extra time to heal and take things slow and then cut him loose on everybody during September.

FG has the Braves at 32-36 RoS, finishing with 84 wins. Give me the over on that.

I've seen some chatter around here that the Braves have a super hard schedule and the Phils have a super easy schedule. According to this, their remaining schedules are very comparable:

I'll take the Braves over the Phillies by 1-2 games. Hopefully they can also hold off the Nats, who I expect to make a charge at some point.

I think we finish at 91 wins and win the division. I do think Acuna turns in a monster second half. I also believe Ender and Dansby take a few steps forward and we get more production from them.

Dansby hit .262 with an OBP north of .350 last month, so he's played solid the last month-plus.

I’m not one to bring up old threads to poke fun at people... but I’m kinda glad someone did this time around ...

I figured the Phils would regress, but I didn't think they would fall apart.

I kept bracing for the Nats to make a push...and it never happened.

This was the "everything goes right" scenario everyone hopes for but doesn't plan around.

You were spot on with almost everything you said. You may even get the record exactly right, but I think i'd take the over on 91 wins at this point.

We did have one of those perfect scenarios - maybe that 1 out of 5 where everything goes wrong for the other teams. I don't think anyone here expected the Phillies to be the worst team in the NL from the beginning of August, or that the Nats would remain a .500 ballclub.

Even my modest prediction of .500 ball would've won the division. We were, in fact, not much better than a .500 team only a week ago before this 6 game win streak.

Well put. I never thought that much of the Phillies, but they've been as stable as an Italian coalition government since the first of September. Like you, I was expecting a furious charge from the Nationals, but that didn't materialize at all. I am curious to see how the Nationals handle the off-season and wonder how long a leash Martinez will be given.

With Swanson's health unclear, let's hope Charlie continues to make you look bad

It's not like Charlie has to do much on offense to provide more than Swanson has, esp. down the stretch in Sept. Plus as AA said, Culberson's calling card is his defense at short. If he plays there regularly he should do very good. He can even play deeper than Swanson due to his strong arm (which we saw on the mound). I really don't believe Swanson is so much better defensively, he is just having a career year and Culberson has played most games everywhere but his best and natural position. Culberson was great for the Dodgers on defense and offense last playoffs.

Funny that I thought about this thread as we were clinching last Saturday and was wondering if anyone would dredge it up. This is one of those cases where I'm elated to have been wrong by underestimating the Braves second half potential. I was equally wrong in overestimating what the Phillies and gNats would do post ASG. I now just hope the Braves can continue to build on what they've started this year and stay healthy.
