Postseason Thread

2nd and 3rd with no outs and you can't get 1 run in. Pittiful. But the Jays had the man up they wanted in that spot. Davis is nasty.

To be fair, Revere got screwed.

That 2-1 call was a ball and changed the entire AB.

Also not sure why Gibbons pulled Price at just 99 pitches.

Also, if there is any doubt that the Braves are taking the right road to rebuilding, take a look at the World Series. Two teams whose strength is pitching. With the Mets, the strength is obviously the starting rotation. With the Royals, it is their bullpen. Both teams have line ups that are balanced. The Royals line up is very difficult to strike out.

I see two pretty different teams. Mets have a lot of homegrown starting pitching. Royals just have Ventura in that category. Both have quite a few non homegrown players acquired be trade or FA. I would say the main lesson is to get good players at good value. If you do that a high percentage of the time you can survive the inevitable mistakes like Infante for the Royals and Cuddyer for the Mets.

Old School beats sabr again.

I don't think that it's a repudiation of any approach as much as it is an endorsement of the opinion that there are a lot of ways to build a winning baseball team; an opinion that a traditionalist like me has subscribed to all along.

Eh, Jays had leadoff double, didnt score, 1st and 2nd in the 3rd or 4th didnt score, had runner on 3rd no outs, 2nd 3rd no outs, didnt score. And should have won Game 2 as well the way Price was pitching at the time.

Not like they steamrolled them.

Playoffs are a crapshoot and pretty much unpredictable.

I don't find it to be pure luck as the reason the Royals have back to back WS berths. Their BP is the best in baseball. If you don't have a lead by at least the 6th inning, you basically aren't beating the Royals.

I dont exactly disagree there, Mets need to jump on KC early in the WS.

Certainly a difficult task to beat that pen late in the game.

Should be an interesting series. I'm thinking Mets have a slight advantage. Both teams were aggressive at the deadline, but the Mets seemed to shore themselves up a bit more.

I agree. It just gets old to see those who buy 100% into the Bill Beane philosophy of building a roster demean anything that is associated with scouting. The smart teams utilize the stats and understand their limitations while relying upon their scouting.

Who does that?
