Potential Johnson Landing Spots

When placed on waivers, the following teams get first crack at him...

1.) Rockies - 55 Wins

1.) Pirates - 55 Wins

3.) Mutts - 57 Wins

4.) Cardinals - 58 Wins

5.) Marlins - 59 Wins

6.) Dodgers - 62 Wins

7.) Giants - 63 Wins

Don't worry so much naysayers - plenty of opportunities to move him soon.

Personal preferred targets from those teams...

Rockies - Dom Nunez, Tyler Nevin
Pirates - Steven Brault, Stephen Tarpley, Adam Frazier
Mutts - Marcos Molina, Johan Urena
Cardinals - Carson Kelly, Nick Plummer, Bryce Denton
Marlins - Luis Castillo, Stone Garrett
Dodgers - Will Smith, Starling Heredia, Josh Sborz
Giants - Steven Okert, Ray Black, Heath Quinn

I don't think the Dodgers will be buying any Jim Johnson stock after the rope a dope he pulled with them last year.

Yaneverknow.

I'd certainly doubt it as well, but their pen hasn't exactly been "lights out". If they could get him for one of their redundant prospects like Heredia or Sborz I wouldn't put it past them.

I get the feeling the Cards really like Carson Kelly. I'd love to get him, but they've promoted him aggressively despite his offensive numbers never really justifying it. They must see something in him, or absolutely love his defense.

I don't see the Rockies or Pirates caring to claim him. I don't think he'd make it pass the Mets.

Mets claimed a reliever today..hmmm...

I really don't know how Johnson clears waivers to be honest. Once he's claimed we don't have much leverage

Its easy then... if we don't get an offer we like from the team that claims him... you don't make the trade. Its not like we have zero leverage.

Giants - Heath Quinn

Still annoyed we didn't draft Quinn ourselves, but don't think we can trade for this years drafted players until after the WS right? Or did something change there I'm not aware of?

Quinn could be a PTBNL if I'm not mistaken.

Yes. Rule used to be that a player drafted in June couldn't be traded until June of the following year. New rule is more lenient, but player drafted in June can only be traded after the season is over ala Swanson last off-season.

Johnson has pitched really well of late. I doubt he would clear waivers.

He is only on a one year contract, so I doubt any non contending team would claim him. So the first playoff team to claim him would be able to work a deal out. if not, you just take him back and look to resign him again next year and retry. I think he is worth another look next year. low risk/high reward type signing if you can do it early enough..

I agree on the non-contender angle. Why would they want him. I think a contender might look at him as a 7th inning guy. 1.58 ERA since coming off the disabled list at the beginning of June.
