Power

Come on, people. We are not getting Arenado in a trade. This is bonkers talk.

Arenado is one of the best players in baseball, at age 25. They're not going to consider him expendable just because Ryan freaking McMahon is getting close.

Why wouldn't they consider trading him?? It's not bonkers talk at all. He was pissed when Tulo was traded and will never sign an extension there. The only hope they ever have of competing is making a couple of big trades to reload up on pitching. And we have plenty of that.

I still don't think arenado will be traded. A trade would be smart but their owner continues to say they won't go for a rebuild and he acted consistent with that by trading Dickerson a hitter with 4 yrs control for a relief pitcher with just 2 years control.

wow, I forgot about that trade.. still think that was an incredibly dumb trade.

Why wouldn't they consider trading one of the best hitters in baseball, who is 25 and under team control for 4 more cheap years? Do I need to explain that?

The guy is probably on the short list of best overall players in baseball right now...by short list, I mean bordering on top 5 soon. He is not expendable because they have McMahon. McMahon may be expendable because they have Arenado, but definitely not the other way around.

We'll see on an extension. But even if he doesn't, they have 4 years of him at a minimum. They are under no pressure whatsoever to get rid of him. That is indeed bonkers.

Inciarte LF

Albies SS/2B

Freeman 1B

Braun RF

Lucroy C

Garcia 3B

Swanson 2B/SS

Pitcher

Smith CF

That would be a lineup that has the potential to keep the line moving. Freeman and Braun in the middle can hit for power and average, and you have speed all over that lineup

I think trading for Braun is a distinct possibility, I don't think Lucroy is since he is a short term addition.

And I seriously doubt the team addresses C and LF but leaves Garcia at 3B....and bats him ahead of Swanson.

My ideal offseason would be:

Trade for Braun.

Sign Cervelli for C.

Sign Prado or Freese for 3B.

Sign an older FA SP to a 2-3 year deal.

We would have to pay Braun through 2021, when he's 37. I don't really want to do that. And I assume you're talking trade, but we would have to re-sign Lucroy.

Braun's age 37 year is a $15M option with a $4M buyout. The Braves would be getting his 33-36 seasons for 4/80. The only time he has posted an OPS under .850 was his .777 in 2014. He put up an .854 OPS last year and is currently posting a 1.035 OPS this year.

The Braves will be pretty hard pressed to find a legit RHed .850 OPS hitter for less than 4/80 any other way. Cespedes will likely require $120M+. Bautista will require $100M+ and is older than Braun. Both of those guys will also cost a draft pick.

Yup. I completely agree. If we can pull it and Lewis (the only real thumper) is off the board, we should do it IMO.

this is my vision as well. I don't have Braun per se.. but a power RHH for LF.. A middle of the road Pitcher, Cervelli at C, and replacement older guy at 3 while we weight internal options.

that way we can use JT/Nick/Adonis all as trade pieces. hopefully one or two of KJ/Beckham/Frenchy/Chacin/Norris/Ogando/JJ/Grilli/Aybar can build enough trade value to get a few minor pieces here and there..

doubt the Rangers trade Gallo.. they can play him at 1st after this year.

I think he could be had for the right deal. They have some holes in their pitching that should be exploited by mid-season. Gallo or Profar are going to be their best trading chips.

Braun is a good piece to have. Lucroy wouldn't be a bad option, and Garza wouldn't be terrible either....

I did the lineup based on a trade around that. I am perfectly okay with shipping Garcia off somewhere else in a deal and signing a guy like Prado, who is already a fan favorite.

i think you can get Profar....Gallo would take a lot.

Nobody is worried about Braun's no trade apparently.

I actually think the Yankees salary dump move makes sense. I'm not sure I want the Braves to do that, but I get that here is logic for both teams. The Yankees could look to make a move like the Sox did with Boston and then have a ton of money for Strausberg and the next year's class. For me I'd want more than Judge for all that risk we'd take on.

It would be crazy if they traded him but with the shape their team is in and the trouble they always have with pitching it makes sense. In the offseason he'll have 3 years left and they'd want a kings ransom. I threw his name out there bc he plays a position of need and solves our RH power problem. If they did make him available I'd hope we would be involved.

Joey Gallo is a name to consider as well as Clint Frazier.

Frazier would definitely be interesting. He swings and misses a lot, but he's the kind of right-handed power that we need. He's also a Georgia kid, which doesn't hurt.

I don't think the Braves would trade for someone with a PED suspension like Braun. After the Olivera saga, the FO will be doubly cautious about trading for players that are tainted in any way. In addition to the PR element, they have to consider possible effects on the young and presumably impressionable players that they are banking on.

Arenado would take like, Swanson or Albies + a couple of our top pitchers. We shouldn't try trading for him.

Well, sure. Who the **** wants to live in Milwaukee?

Yes to the general ideas. No to Prado. Not because I don't like Prado, but Dalyn says we have enough Judy hitters.
